JAR license revalidation

Hi everyone,

Hoping someone can help me with a question re. JAR prof checks as I googled for a good hr but can't really grasp it for sure.

I have a JAR CPL ME IR and my MEP IR is due to expire.

Now as I understand it, to revalidate it (in the acft, not a sim) I have to either proof I did 10 sectors on a MEP IR aircraft within the past year / period of validity or fly ONE check flight with an examiner.

On the other side I have also heard I need to do one prof check flight AND one ride with an examiner (so TWO flights in total?) if I do not have 10 sectors in the last year.

Any help & pointers to the right part of JAR FCL 1 would be very much appreciated - this is my first JAR revalidation so I'm a wee bit confused by what people say - so much easier in FAAland

INNflight,

As I understand it you have a JAA CPL MEIR.

The IR is valid for 12 months and must be revalidated via a test flight each year, you can alternate each year from a check flight in the sim and the following year it must be in an aircraft.

The MEP is also valid for 1 year and most people will revalidate both the MEP and the IR at the same time, however the MEP check flight can only be performed in the aircraft, not the sim.

Hope that help and sorry can't quote you the actual JAR FCL section.

As redbull21 writes, both the IR and the MEP rating need revalidation with an examiner, typically done in the same flight. The detailed contents of what is included in these flights can be found here (examiner form): http://www.caa.co.uk/docs/33/FORSRG1157.pdf.

If you haven't done the 10 route sectors [a route sector is 15 minutes in cruise, EXCLUDING departure, approach and landing] than that check flight needs to include one route sector. That is the route sector flown as part of the IR renewal (section 3B in the check), so if you renew both MEP and IR, it makes no difference. Only if you renew the MEP rating on its own you would have to fly section 3A, basically 15 minutes or so VFR navigation.

However, if you haven't flown 10 sectors in 12 months, it appears you are not currently flying MEP - unless you have a need to keep the ratings, it might be worth considering renewing only the IR in the sim, or even letting both the MEP rating and the IR lapse if all you do is SEP VFR. You can renew them when you need them - the renewal and revalidation tests are the same in the first few years, this might save you some money.
