Just a left field thought from someone who has worked in the development of young people and is also a successful businessman...
If you have the aptitude required for pilot training and the commitment/determination described in tinstasfl's original post, you are a shoe in to achieve great things in any walk of life...many of which will provide an income easily great enough to go buy your own aircraft and fly it when you want.
Also, I echo the thoughts of the poster who queried if this is how you wish to spend the best years of your life...and would add to participate in an industry which is increasingly treating its employees like s**t.
Not knocking your dreams you understand; anybody that can sacrifice and commit to that degree has my complete and utter respect.
Just trying to give it a little perspective.

Hi FoJohansson,
Actually Sweden has a public (free) aviation college, it's called TFHS.
While there are discussions about them shutting down there is another class starting April/May next year, so apply by all means!
Then there is also one in Norway that you can apply to (free as well) and it's called Luftfartsfag.
With TFHS you'll get an MPL and their current partner airlines are City Airline (embraer) and Norwegian (737NG).
Good luck!

lol BA038!! If I cant find my own way into work then I really think that piloting across the globe may be a bridge too far! Mad Jock that makes a lot of sense what your saying never looked at it in that way but your right with the medical. I have got my first flying lesson booked this Thursday (nothing spectacular just a 30min introduction flight at Cranfield but still is better than nothing really cannot wait My next move is definitely the medical, there is one thing I know of that may hinder me progressing much past that but I wont go into any detail here will just wait and see fingers crossed, as far as im aware its done at Gatwick, which is now too far for me to get as I no longer drive...! Fortunately can get on the train easy enough. I really like the idea of doing it a lot more progressively as you've suggested to soften the financial blow of it all, is tempting to drop everything and go for one of FTO's and get it all done but as im sure we all know is very expensive. Really appreciate the advice and im sure you'll be hearing a lot more from me. PS I had an application to CTC Wings since November 2010 and coincidently got a reply today saying congratulations you have passed the first phase of the application and Ive been asked to attend a selection day! In November I was a lot less knowledgeable in terms of possible "routes" to take, so would I be wise in saying I should probably turn that offer down (also have heard CTC are extremely expensive!) Thanks again
