What after fATPL?
Hi All,
I'm currently studying for a degree in Transportation at the University of Ulster with a specialism in aviation. I'm forming a plan, upon graduation in 2015, to become a commerical pilot.
I'm from a middle class family so no golden honey pot from which to take six figure payouts so I looked first at cadetships, namely Cathay and Etihad. The former seems to have less than degrading T/Cs and Etihad seems to have shut up shop for now. Is there a likelyhood that these will resume toward the next four years for other airlines also?
I was about to give up, when I saw this course in the US which seems to be a fairly reputable establishment:
Euro American School of Aviation - Airline Pilot Program
My placement salary should be able to pay for a large chunk of this along with a bit of saving up. After this, what is needed to make myself 'marketable'?
Do nearly all jobs now require a self-sponsored type rating?
How much would this cost?
Will this situation change towards 2015?
I know a lot of this may be conjecture and it's not as if everyone has a crystal ball to look into but I'm very grateful for any help - I feel a bit lost!

I've been to this school a number of times, and never had any problems. I liked the staff, and even the owner!
It makes me laugh though that you almost gave up on flying and Ormond Beach Aviation (OBA now called EASA) has changed your mind!
Good luck.

VJW,
In a sense I'll probably never give up - it'll be in the back of my mind somewhere! Here it was only the cost which caught my eye initially - anything over 30k at this point I definitely couldn't afford as I'm trying to be conservative for a possible type rating + hours etc etc. in the original post.
Thanks!
