Devil Faa conversion & Gulfstream TR by May

Kind and Knowledgeable Ppruners,

This is somewhat a variation on a theme, but obviously as my personal situation is clearly the most important thing to have happened in the history of aviation I thought I'd start a new thread...

I am in the fortunate position to have been made a once in a lifetime job offer flying a shiny new gulfstream, providing that I am able to convert to FAA (Shiny jet is American Reg) and get rated on it by the middle of May. I will probably never get an opportunity like this again so obviously I am willing to move heaven and earth to get this done.

To the best of my knowledge these are the steps I need to take:
1) FAA Verification of a foreign license
2) M1 Training Visa
3) Flight Training in Florida
4) Initial Type Rating

By my calculations this should take between 10 - 12 weeks, slightly too long. Is there anyway I can streamline this process?

For example could I attain the Type Rating on my JAA license in the US using the Visa Waiver while I wait for steps 1 & 2? Can I get the M1 training visa issued in the US rather than at the US embassy in London? If not, can I do the TR in the UK and then convert to the FAA license once I get that and where?

Any suggestions/information would be very welcome. Thanks in advance.

Too little time too much to do...

Good luck with your endeavours. I hope you get good results which are fast.

Regarding the M1 visa- you can travel to USA on a tourist visa and get a I-20 issued to get your B1/B2 visa converted to the M1 visa. But this can take anywhere from 2-3 months. But i am not 100% sure if the same can be done if you enter USA on a Visa Waiver Program.(I got a J1 converted to M1) was a pain and it resulted in many problems.

Also, you do have to join a training academy that can assist you in your training and issue you a Form: I-20. (The TR institute should be able to do this)

The FAA certification of validation can take anywhere from 45-90 days.
Airmen Certification: Verify the Authenticity of a Foreign License, Rating, or Medical Certification

Best thing to do would be send in your documents for verification and get a FAA license and do your TR in USA and get the endorsement done on the FAA license. In the mean time process your visa for M1 and get it done ASAP and get going to the USA. One cannot get a TR done on a Visa Waiver. One needs to have a proper visa i.e. M1, F1, J1 etc (i am guessing your TR is for aircrafts above 12,500 lbs)

Therefore also need a TSA approval before you can commence training.

Hope it all works out only 75 days to go before may ends.
