CPL modular advice
Hey
Ive had a look and cannot find any reference to this, so apologies if I have missed it and repeating the question.
Can anyone ( from Scotland most likely ) reccomend a flying school in Glasgow or its sorroundings, where I can complete my CPL? There seems to be quite a lot and I do not want to start departing with cash if they are not particularly great.

What used to be called Tayflight (now ACS Aviation I think?) at Perth aerodrome; and Tayside Aviation at Dundee. One's an hour from Glasgow by car; the other an hour-and-a-half. That's when things run smoothly - with the state of the A80 until Sept 2011 you might need to almost double these times.

thanks for the reply. I have no started anything at all. This is something that I have wanted to do for a long time but never been in a financial situation to do it untill now ( eventually I want to fly for an airline or cargo company ). I currently have saved aroun £7,000. Fair bit to go! Thanks for the Info

I would recommend going to visit each of the clubs , talk to there members and instructors and then go for a trial lesson.We are lucky around Glasgow with some great clubs and having visited them all I can safely say that they all provide a great standard of training. Although learning at Glasgow will be a lot more expensive ( Baa landing fees ) I'd recommend either Prestwick or Cumbernauld

Just before you depart with your cash. I would recomemend you checking out the CAA list for issuing CPL and ATPL licences to get an idea of the back log of pilots at the moment otherwise your be paying for renewals very quickly.
I am not saying anything to do with the fact of getting a flying job, but make sure you have money to continue flying at the end of the course.
I have renewed my IR rating for the past 4 years and fly a minimum of 1 hour a month. I fly 20-30 hours a year, which is what I have been able afford at the moment. I do know other pilots who have kept up there renewals for 6-7 years without a flying job.
Don't pay for the rating without flying after flinishing the ratings otherwise your miss flying experience.
