Radio Nav - VOR question

I have drawn out this question so many times and for some reason cannot work out why the answer is what it is! Could someone please help me out with an explanation please - many thanks in advance...

An aircraft is on a radial 120 with a magnetic heading of 300, the track selector (OBS) reads: 330. The indications on the Course Deviation Indicator (CDI) are fly -

Answer - "left with TO showing"

I think I am getting confused with which radial I am actually following depending on the TO/FROM indication

Thankyou all

Remember that radials are FROM the VOR.

So to get a centred needle and a "TO" indication with 330 selected, you must be on the reciprocal of the 330 radial.

That is the 330 - 180 = 150 radial.

But in this case you are on the 120 radial. So the 150 radial is to your left.

So you get a left needle and a "TO" indication.

Thanks for your reply Keith.

As radials come from the VOR station - for me to have a 330 heading and a TO flag I MUST be on the reciprical so on 330-180 +150?

If I had the FROM flag showing on the same heading it would only show FROM once I had overflow the VOR station and was on the 330 radial?

Is that right? I must seem so dense but this does confuse me from time to time - moments of clarity then back to my normal level of understanding!!!!

Mutley forget headings when talking about a VOR radial, your heading is irrelevant
