JAA Single/Multi rating question
Hello,
I am about to convert my FAA CPL/IR to a JAA CPL/IR. If I do this completely in a Multi aircraft will I be able to fly Single aircraft on my JAA license?

I have the same question
I have ICAO CPL with IR and Multi
I want to have JAA CPL/IR/Multi, have single engine and multi engine priviledges either for flying in IR and for working.
How should be the layout of my conversion corse
Thank you

I think it's slightly more complicated than that. Assuming that you are issued only with a JAA CPL(A), MEIR(A) and MEP(L) Class Rating, you may exercise the privileges of your licence only on a multi-engine aeroplane. You would then need to pass the SEP(L) Class Rating Skill Test to add that rating to your CPL(A). However, you would not need to pass a further IR skill test as a MEIR is valid on a SEP aeroplane provided that you hold a valid SEP class rating

So when converting, going in the minimuns
IR
5 hours MEP
10 h FNTPII
Skilltest (mep rating here 1.5 VFR in the end of instrument)
Has of now JAA IR/MEP
CPL
no minimuns, but shure will need preparation
I should do this in a RG/VP airplane?
skilltest
now JAA IR/MEP with CPL in a Single Engine, but does this allows me to work in a multi engine?

you will need to do an ICAO MEIR conversion and this will allow you to fly SEP IR as well. you will need to obtain a SEP to your JAR license.
I got the SEP in the states and took about an hour max to obtain.
you will also need to do a JAA CPL skills test as well.

Just do your JAA commercial pilot licence conversion on a single engine. Do your JAA IR conversion on a multi. Then you have multi IR RATING on a Commercial pilot licence that you have just completed on a single engine aircraft( probably be a beechraft sierra or a Piper Arrow).
To sum up.
You will have a commercial pilot licence with a single engine rating on it, a multi engine rating on it, and a multi instrument rating on it.
Job done. In the most cost effective way.

Your intial IR isn't counted as a skills test on the MEP class.
And doing the CPL in a SEP is a pain in the ring if your used to flying twins.
Speak to your school about it. There is bound to be an examiner kicking about and you might find that they want to do a couple of hours nav with you in a SEP. You should be able to get it sorted without to much hassel and expense.
Doing everything in the twin isn't cost effective. Some of the CPL stuff is quite anal retentive with paper work, timings and RT. Better to get that squared away paying 150 quid an hour for the aircraft than 300 plus.
