Experience from Gestair, Cascais? ( or any other school in Portugal )

Hi Everybody

If there's anyone out there with experience from Gestair Academy in Cascais I would be more than happy to hear what you have got to say. Positive and negative. It can be about anything, prices, instructors, airplanes, the lessons, language difficulties, the school in general etc etc.

For you with experience from other schools in Portugal I would appreciate to hear that as well.

If you are or have been a student please send a PM as well. If you don't mind some questions.

Thanks in advance

Gestair Portugal.

I spend a lot of time in Portugal and know Cascais quite well. I enquired with Gestair Cascais in the past. They seem to be quite a professional outlet. They were in the process of receiving new glass cockpit aircraft back then also.

I think you should contact them because when I spoke to them in the past they told me that the training was offered in English, however, when I made further inquiries they told me they did not actually teach in english in Cascais but in Portuguese. They said that their Gestair sister school in spain thought in english.

I don't know if the language has changed in Cascais, but may be you should drop them an email and ask them specifically do the teach in english at cascais.

Happy searching mate

Thanks for answering, I have almost the same experience with them. Well, some years ago I chose not to contact them because their website wasn't in english and I couldn't find anything that said that their courses were either etc.

However now they've changed it a lot, you can find the website in english and they also write that the courses are in english as well, and yeah it looks like most of their fleet are Garmin 1000 airplanes. They respond fast and the guy sent me some information, the prices are almost the same as here. They seem to be professional, I just came back from Portugal but next time I will visit them.

Thanks again

Just for your information the website is available in English (if you click in the top right corner) and you can perform the Integrated course in English in either Cascais or Madrid. Because Portuguese is not an ICAO language all ATC is done in English anyway. There is also now the possibility of a combined JAA/FAA course. Hope this helps you a little.

Consider also Aeronautical Academy of Europe (AAE) in Évora AERONAUTICAL ACADEMY OF EUROPE - Academia Aeronáutica de Évora, S.A.
They are part of CAE global academy, very professional with courses in English.

Hey guys

Gestair is a pretty good school, with a good location next to Lisbon. They are very professional but a bit pricy for my taste. Also the airspace over there is a bit saturated, as it's close to Lisbon international airport, you end up losing a lot of your training time while on pattern.

Evora has a nice and experienced school over there as well. There is also another one, next to Porto, in Maia, pretty close from where I live.
I actually decided to head out to Florida for my training, in EFT, to get the very best bang for my buck.

Hi,

From my point Academia de Evora is probably the best school in Portugal.
You have other schools, for example in Tires, like Gestair you will probably spend € 60.000 or even more take in account a place to stay, food, etc....
In Portugal the schools that I know are in Porto called Nortavia, in Lisbon you have Gestair, Omni, Leavia and in Evora you have Academia de Evora probably the best and with better reputation from my point of view but the more expensive.

This is all my opion. If I where you before I choose any school I would visit them first and talk with the staff and see the facilities and all that.

Good luck.
