Between a rock and a hard place

Anyone know the procedure after your ATPLs expire, ie full retakes required ect??.
I have been training for the last 2 and a half years part time, as well as working and paying a morgage and an unexpected little fella ariving on the scene!!.
My ATPLs expire in May 2010 and i still have the CPL/ME IR to do. My current view is that it would be lunacy to carry on and take out a loan to continue flight training, but you all know what you had to go through to get them done in the first place and would dread having to do them all again!!.

I have some very good contacts in a couple of airlines who suggest getting it done anyway for next year, but my head and wallet tell me otherwise.

constructive comments please, smart arses dont bother!!

thanks

Hi Hughesyd,

Is it possible to do the CPL element of the training without the MEIR? For example, undergo the 25 hours or so of tuition, then sit the CPL skills test to be issued with a JAR CPL w/- (f) ATP subjects.
You can then do the MEIR in your own time when things pick up, as that is merely a rating onto your license. Open to correction on this, but it would allow you to keep the 14 subjects alive and have a CPL.

It boils down to which one's going to cost more in terms of cold hard cash and heartache.

Finish training (which to be fair you might be able to do in early 2010, thus giving you another year to watch, wait and save), and then shell out to keep current for as long as you need to get that job.

Or suck it in, dump the exams, and pay to do them allll again when the time feels more right.

One strikes me as expensive but fun, the other cheaper but so much more of a ball ache!

In any event, if May 2010 is crunch month, then I think you've still got plenty of time to think about it

Congrats on the sprog

Regards

I'm no expert but my understanding is that it's the IR that has to be added within the specific time frame. I don't believe simply doing the CPL will absolve this time limit.
