University studies for existing pilots

Hi, I would like to know if there is any university in the UK that offers distance learning on aviation managment.

I would be looking to coordinate this course while working in an airline as a pilot.

Thank you for your help

Best from the USA

Hi,
As far as I'm aware, there are no UK schools that will meet your requirements. To be honest, as a Brit with a U.S. bachelors and 16.7% (!!) through an online MBA from the University of Phoenix, I would look to the USA.
It seems like a lot of hassle to begin with but they are usually very geared up for international students with international qualifications. ERAU (Embry-Riddel, www.erau.edu ) is probably your best bet. If you have 'A' levels, or equivalent, you will receive academic credits for them, which can get you moving quickly on down the road. I also got credits for a couple of foundation courses (Sciences & Social Sciences) I did with the Open University.
Also, if it is really a business management degree you are looking for, I would go with the University of Phoenix (www.phoenix.edu ). Their courses are designed for the internet from the outset, rather than normal study materials (poorly) adapted for the online environment. I have been delighted with my experience there. The local office is in Holland and my advisors - academic and financial - have been really helpful!
The only issue I faced was to learn to write in American English, ie., in the active rather than the passive and with the different spellings but, of course, MS Word will sort all of that out for you!
Good Luck!!

LMU do a aviation managemnt degree distance learning with a foundation or bsc, there is also a pilot version where the first year you do the PPL and the second year is the atpl theory

have a look

Aviation Management & Operations (Foundation Degree FDSc)

and just to add to that brunel university do one as well.

City University in London does an MSc in Air Transport Management which was specifically designed, in co-operation with GAPAN, for working airline pilots. You attend a number of intensive modules, each of which lasts three days and do a dissertation. There have been almost 400 students from all over the world who have done this course (or its partner courses).

Distance Learning at LMU/Brunel?

Hi Ali,
I have looked through both Websites for LMU and Brunel and cannot see where they offer distance learning in Aviation Management - LMU seem to have both full-time and part-time options, but not distance learning, and Brunel's degree is an engineering degree, again not distance learning.

PS. For the questioner: IATA offer a number of distance learning training modules - they lead to a diploma in Aviation Studies rather than a degree. Diploma in Aviation Studies (Distance Learning)

Distance learning

Hey mafemukh & eagle21

I too have done some courses with the Open University. I found the whole experience really enjoyable. Unfortunately they don't offer any aviation related courses/qualifications with the exception of an Aviation related foundation degree, but that's only open to serving members of the RAF.

I've also done one of IATA's distance learning modules and found it to be very disappointing having experienced distance learning with the OU.

London Met offer full-time & part-time study but have not been able to get their act together to deliver the course on a distance learning basis. I remember they did have plans to launch distance ed. version of their aviation management foundation degree back in early 2007 but it never did materialize.

If your specifically after aviation/transport related qualifications, your best bet would be ERAU, otherwise the OU is a safe bet for other related subject areas.

Part-time does not mean distance learning, it means not full-time ie you do not attend 5 days a week but maybe 1 or 2 days a week or occasionally - but definitely NOT distance learning.
