Saab 340 TRTO's?

Hi all!
Is there anyone who could help me on this one?
I'm looking for a school apart from SAS FA that provides a Saab 340 type rating? I've heard rumours that Patria offers one, but they won't answer my e-mails. Any other schools that I choose from? SAS FA would be interesting, but they're all booked up apparantly and they're asking a horrible price for it aswell.
Any info on this will be happily accepted! /LnS

Think SAS is about it. Flight Safety (I think) at Farnborough has a SF340 sim but not sure if they do the full type rating or just recurrent.

Flight Safety at Farnborough (01252 554500) offer the Saab 340 type training both initial and recurrent, initial is 22 day course.

Also flight safety in St Louis (314) 426 6160 (800) 258 4351 do the Saab 340 type rating again both initial and recurrent, 19 days in the states.

Have no idea of costs but good luck with it.

Last I heard (last Monday), FSI do not yet hold JAA approval for the SF340 type rating, either in St Louis or Farnborough.

Saab 340/2000 TR

Hi all!

I am one of those who have been searching for a job a while, but now decided that a type rating needs to be taken. I have my mind on SAAB 340. Any thoughts or opinions on this would be very appreciated. Also if you know about job possibilities in Europe, on this plane.

Thanks!!!

Saab 340's are being sold all over the world for anywhere between $400,000 US and $1,000,000 US (for the really good ones with the major checks freshly done!). Aircraft like that dont get sold that cheap if there arent lots of them lying around collecting dust!

OSOP

P.S. If you have read any of my other posts, I am most definately not advocating buying a TR!

Saw an advert the other day for a Dornier 328 rated FO. No hours on type required aparrently, though that was minimum requirements.

OSOP - Think your info may be out of date. Not many Saabs lying around. Maybe a few of the oldest A models, but B's are not to be found, and definitely not at the prices you're talking about.

If you're still thinking about a Turboprop TR, you might want to look at this thread and my last post:

Why Saab?
There aren't all that many SAAB 340's in use or lying around - they just didn't build many. And the ones that are flown have a poor reputation for reliability.
If you feel you must buy a TR I wouldn't think you'd go wrong with an ATR rating. Plenty around, still in production and still being bought. Also the rating covers 42 and 72. A Saab 340 is nothing like a 2000. And before you ask that is a bit of a white elephant. Awesome airplane but again poor reliability. And they built even fewer of them - 80 springs to mind but could be wrong. If you are Swiss then could be for you - I think they have most.

Cheers

SK

Try Sabenavita in Lithuania - I know they have TRTO for Saab 340, not sure about Saab 2000 but they are ex LAL (LAL have Saab 2000). If they do it, I'd be fairly sure it'll be a lot cheaper than most others in Europe. Their contacts are at www.sabenavita.lt.

Betts Recruitmemt ran a SSTR on the Saab a few months back and they were still charging 18000 for the type rating.

Hi!!!

I heard that Carpatair was looking for self funded pilots for the Saab 2000, so give them a call.

Good luck and nice flights.
