Too Old To Get A Job At 34?

Hi All

Am seriously thinking of changing career to become a pilot. I am 32 now and would realistically be 34 when qualified. With low hours and my age would I be able to get a job?

Cheers

Wink

GAPAN, in conjunction with EPST, conducted a survey of, quote, 'ten UK airlines ranging from large scheduled carriers, regional operators to charter airlines' and question 3 of that survey provides you with some information that may be of use.

You should also do a search of these forums for the opinions offered to other people that found themselves in the same position as yourself. It's a question that has been asked many times. Indeed, I think the Sticky at the top of the forum even has links to one or two of those threads.

{Edit: Here is the sticky - look about half-way down.}

Sufficed to say that some people arrived in the aviation sector at a later age than you or I and managed to find work. However, I've tried to ensure that my expectations are a little more tempered than those of a fresh-faced youth!

Hope this helps.

Hi vsflight

By now means are you too old . I have a few friends in the business who did not start out till their late 30's

Though I would think long and hard before taking the plonge especially if you have a good job , giving up a good one for one that might never be could turn out to be a mistake you might regret.
The reason I say this is that realistically you will not be qualified to the extent that an airline will employ you in two years
There is alot of young type rated unemployed pilots out there .

At the end of the day if your heart is really in it don't let your age stop you just be prepared for the hurdles.. flightime..
