Pprune fly in

Are we going to have another shot at one sometime being as sumer is icuming? Somewhere mid country for everyone? Or maybe meet up at an event, one of Old Warden's displays or the like? It's cold war jet day at Bruntingthorpe on the 24th May, that's nice and noisy.

Edit: Or split it between a north and south fly in? Us Northerners could meet at say Breighton?

150 Driver 25th February 2015 19:07

What a great idea, then we can all slug out the circuit joining procedures in real life :D

Above The Clouds 25th February 2015 19:30

Count me in if not doing the day job :ok:

RH circuit for the Northerners, LH for the rest? :\

Whereabouts are you based?

I feel sure that the good people of Breighton would be happy to host such an event.

Just drop an email to Davski at: [email protected]

Redhill for the south? The Pilot Hub brekkies are a-ma-zin:ok:

SGC

thing 26th February 2015 16:45

Doesn't have to be hosted as such MJ, we've had two already, one at Sherburn and the other at Leicester. Other than letting the airfield know that half a dozen a/c would be turning up and fuel requirements etc there's not a lot else to be done.

I'm happy to do Breighton by the way but do they open the sheds on a normal Sat/Sun? For first timers it's quite an impressive walk round.

Yes. the hangars are normally open at weekends.

Chester based.

thing 26th February 2015 18:43

Breighton OK for you?

Peter Gristwood 26th February 2015 19:02

Why not have one down in the Far SW

We are always having to travel upcountry. Come on down and see us for a change. Dunkeswell is a really friendly base with a decent restaurant

thing 26th February 2015 19:24

Hence the suggested North/South split.

Above The Clouds 26th February 2015 19:28

Anywhere for me so long as its decent wx, aircraft is VFR only.

thing 26th February 2015 19:45

See how many folk are interested first. Do I need to put in a GAR for Dunkeswell?

Above The Clouds 26th February 2015 20:16

I might need GPS :E

Peter Gristwood 26th February 2015 20:33

When you are in the Far SW, the idea of a north/south split is often irrelevant.

We can be in Blackpool as quickly as we can be at Rochester

150 Driver 26th February 2015 20:39

Wherever, depending on wx and diary

thing 26th February 2015 21:27

In the interests of fairness then, how about everyone saying where they are flying from then we can pick a reasonable midway spot. Unless you're flying in from Lerwick in which case all bets are off.

Peter/Dunkeswell.

So far looking Enstone/Croft Farm ish.

Forgot to put Above The Clouds from Chester.

Rod - Staffordshire (near Tatenhill)

thing 27th February 2015 09:25

I'll let this run for till next Friday then I'll put up some suggestions based on a roughly central spot. We'll have a vote on location and date. I take it Sat or Sun would suit most people?

SidT 27th February 2015 12:25

Based @ EGSX - North Weald

jaycee46 27th February 2015 14:17

I can't speak for us all from North of Hadrians Wall, but I would consider anywhere within 1.5 to 2 hours from my base at PIK, which probably means north of Manchester, in the west or Yorkshire in the east. Would be nice to put some faces to names - I think!?

150 Driver 27th February 2015 14:40

Enstone would be a lovely venue. Sat/Sun would be preferable

thing 27th February 2015 14:55

As always with these things Jaycee you have to try and keep everyone happy. If the majority of folks are coming from the south or south west then it will have to be somewhere with 'weighting' towards that area. I'm happy to go anywhere really being as I'm pretty much on the line between the northern and southern half mil (all three of the airfields I fly from are on both maps).

Could also have a 'northern' fly in as well, plenty of us lurking around in Yorkshire and that sort of area.

thing 27th February 2015 14:58

Enstone would be a lovely venue.
Well I can certainly recommend the local pub! Mind you the pub at Croft Farm/Defford is good as well.

Scoobster 27th February 2015 16:08

Haven't been to a "fly in" before.. so would be interesting to see "what happens" at one of these events..

May be able to slot it in my diary (depending when it is).

Based: EGSG.

Can we have it at EGSR :\

Mainly people go 'Ha, you're not how I imagined you at all.' :)

I'd like to get a pub into this one somewhere rather than the airfield caffs we've used before.

Above The Clouds 27th February 2015 17:21

Draw straight lines between members bases crossing in the middle of the map then draw a 25nm radius from that point and pick a suitable airfield ?

thing 27th February 2015 17:58

Sort of doing that at the mo. Mind you some folk are a bit shy about where they actually fly from which is fair enough.

piperboy84 27th February 2015 18:06

Royston Vasey? good "local" facilities.

thing 27th February 2015 18:14

Tatenhill is the closest to Royston...:)

Hen Ddraig 28th February 2015 02:20

I would be interested if the date is right, when in the UK I'm Chester based, but I am away until the end of May

Flying from......

Rochester - EGTO. Saturday/Sunday -Sunday Best!

Simon T 1st March 2015 17:55

I would like to come date and weather permitting. Flying in from Bourne Park

Simon

thing 1st March 2015 18:18

Everyone welcome Simon. I'm looking at the last three Sundays in April; 12th. 19th and 26th. If we go for the 12th we could have the other two as weather alts. Would that be suitable for everyone?

Venues so far (we'll have a vote for it on Friday) are looking like Wellesbourne Mountford/Kemble/Cranfield. Looking into the logistics of it pubs will want deposits and stuff if we are going to book a table for 6 to 12 people which of course will be weather dependent, so although I would much prefer a pub I think that all in all we would be better off at an airfield with a greasy spoon. Haven't done Cranfield but I'm told it's a decent enough caff. Wellesbourne and Kemble I've done and they are both OK.

Rod1 1st March 2015 18:25

I will be doing my permit first two weeks of April so later would be good for me:O

Rod1

thing 1st March 2015 18:27

OK Rod, we'll go for 19th with 26th as a back up.
