No harm in calling, and it may be good manners anyway, but isn't Cranfield PPR only for instrument flight training and circuits ?

That is what my flight Guide is saying anyway

thing 17th April 2015 22:37

My Pooleys is a bit ambiguous. It says strictly PPR on the Op hours and then a bit further down it says strictly PPR for cct training and inst approaches. I don't know whether they mean it's strictly PPR for everything and even more strictly PPR for ccts and inst approaches. Maybe they have a SAM battery if you do ccts without extra extra strictly PPR.

Does anyone else think that 'Strictly PPR' would make good telly for Saturday evening? Ant and Dec hosting? It's hi viz vests as well. Sorry. I feel like a tool wearing them as well. No offence to tools of any religion/metallurgical content. The nice girl in ops said it was £7.50 to land. But if you don't have PPR they scoop your eyes out with a melon spoon.

hegemon88 17th April 2015 23:15

Dear thing and All,

Due to a massive setback with current training I am very unlikely to come. Please take me off the list - if at a last minute it turns out I can go, I will sort my arrival out independently. Sorryyyy!

Copied Heg.

150 Driver 18th April 2015 06:38

'strictly PPR', should the high viz be covered in sequins ?

sharpend 18th April 2015 10:20

Weather looks duff

I have PPR Cranfield, but looking at the weather, does not look great :(

thing 18th April 2015 10:27

EDIT: Scrub what I just put, we'll chop tomorrow and go for next Sunday. I've just rung Met at Waddo and it's looking like mil green in the afternoon for me. It's looking very iffy whether I'll be able to make it and as Sharpend says Cranfield is doable but it's not looking like an enjoyable day out and I don't want people pushing it.

Is everyone OK with next Sunday? Not looking good for then either but you never know!!

Anyone who wants to go tomorrow feel free to do so on an individual basis but I'm going to give Cranfield ops a ring and scrub the 'official' gathering.

Simon T 18th April 2015 15:19

Bummer but probably a good call, just spent 4 hrs washing and polishing the a/c too. I can do next Sunday

thing 18th April 2015 15:38

This doesn't stop of course anyone going tomorrow if they can't make next Sunday. I did tell Cranfield that individuals may turn up off their own bat but to deal with them as a normal Sunday flight.

sharpend 18th April 2015 20:12

Just looked again at the weather. Not very good, so I think it a good decision to scrub. I think we can do the following Sunday.

See you next week

Doesn't look that bad this morning, but no point arriving and being Billy No Mates. See you all next week.

thing 19th April 2015 08:03

A grass strip with a pub nearby sounds ideal but 20 people or so descending on a country pub at Sunday lunchtime may not have the desired outcome. If you try and book it before hand the conversation goes something like this

'Hi I'd like to book a few tables a couple of months in advance'

'Certainly sir, for how many people?'

'Err, depends how many turn up on the day in fact if the weathers grim or the strip is waterlogged we probably won't turn up at all'

'Certainly sir, please send a non refundable deposit of £200.'

:)

sharpend 19th April 2015 09:01

Looks like the met man's computer got it wrong and that mini trough went backwards :)

Simon T 19th April 2015 09:15

Just flown in to Kemble, weather murky but flyable underneath, lovely on top though :)

thing you made the right call with the data available. Looking forward to next week

Simon

thing 19th April 2015 09:19

Glad to say in a perverse way that the weather here is suitably bad. Low level muck at around 800' and light rain. Looks like the weather guessers got it right up this way.

Just flown in to Kemble
Getting a last look before it turns into houses? Nice caff at Kemble. Got to feel sorry for the RAFFCA club there, they were at Lyneham, moved to Kemble when Lyneham shut and now they are to be orphaned again by the look of it.

hegemon88 19th April 2015 11:56

P28B

Provisionally in for next Sunday, G-DAKA P28B :E

On the P28B note, I had a funny conversation yesterday with ground crew at Southend when booking out. "There's no such thing as P28B" she said and then looked it up. "You're flying something really rare, sir" was the next line :P

Let's hope the weather gods are on our side next week.

As I'd got an FDC clearance (Family Diary Controller) I went anyway.

Weather at Cranfield was ok, but dodgy to get there in the Cambridge area with cloud down to 1200 feet

Good call to postpone

thing 19th April 2015 15:19

It cleared to low cumulus here for a couple of hours but it's back to light rain and low lying scud again. Wind has picked up quite a bit too. What's Cranfield like?
