Cessna stall horn
Sounds like a cross between a baby crying and cat meowing for milk lol.

It's definately not the actual stall warner but it does the job.
I think Cessnas are alive. They moan when in cloud and meow near the stall. They may even be female 'cause they squeal at high G. D.O. |
It is the stall warner horn. They are a simple airflow device so they 'groan' as they come on. That sounds exactly the same as my 172 and thr 152 before it.

Our C182T does it. It has an electric stall warner which peeps like a Piper.
In fact the electric one packs up every now and then but the natural one does just fine. Even on the C172 the noise is definately from a different source. D.O. |
It is my understanding that all Cessnas have the reed stall warner even those that are fitted with electric stall warners.
The stall warner is a reed that is mounted in the wing root just beside the cabin vent on the pilot side. There is an opening on the wing route that as the angle of attack increases causes air to be drawn over the reed which makes it vibrate. The vibration is amplified by a small horn type arrangement and its this combination that makes the wheezing wailing sound that you can hear on the video. After a thousand or so hours in them I would recognise that sound anywhere. |

The soft whoooo is the airflow that feeds the reed. You may not have the reed so dont get the full effect but as far as I am aware the rest of it is common to the whole 1xx range.

C150 - C150E (1959-1965) have electric stall warners only. The reed ones are from 1966 and later(together with the swept tail)

Hi Bose,
Just had a look again at our C182 and other Cessnas here. Ours does not have the reed aperture like the earlier models. The electric vane is further out on the opposite wing with no opening. Only openings are the air vents. It must be the air vents. Just like the gun ports on a P51:) D.O. |
