Ohhh errr City flyer

Just realised that with a bit of luck, we will be there on the Saturday rather than the Sunday. So that gives you the opportunity to fly in with one of us (or by yourself if you want) and show us around the old girl.

LowNSlow 4th October 2000 01:45

21/22 sounds good to me. CityFlyer, I would love to drool over the Bearcat, pauses to slip anorak on, I thought the Bearcat was an F8F? Stands back, puts on flak jacket and tin helmet whilst waiting for incoming......

rightstuffer 4th October 2000 15:29

Nice spot lowNslow. You're right, the Bearcat was the F8F. I suppose the F2F must have been one of the earlier ones. Was it the Wildcat, Hellcat, Pussycat or Somethingorotherelsecat?

I move that you be nominated for Anorak of the month.

(PS An F8F currently holds the world air speed record for propeller driven aircraft - pinched from the P-51 'Red Baron' a few years ago.) http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/cool.gif :)

On behalf of CityFlyer (Carol - keep up with your posts now, theres a good girl)I know she will not be at Duxford to see us on the Saturday unfortunately but I guess those who are interested can always go back on the Sunday. Maybe we should make the Sunday a standby in case Sat is wx out anyway??

miss approach 4th October 2000 15:50

As I have just moved only 10 miles away from Duxford, but now 25 miles away from my flying club (in the opposite direction  ), I might just drive - that is if you will accept a non-flying interloper ??

Flintstone 4th October 2000 17:41

I second that LowNSlow be made Anorak of the Month.

All those in favour say "Aye (have a small notebook full of aircraft registrations)" :)

New Bloke 5th October 2000 00:40

Absolutely Miss Approach, the more the merrier

DOC.400 5th October 2000 00:46

Duxford -I'm flying there this Sunday,8/10/00. Planning to land at about 10.30 local.
G-BRNU -seeyas!!

rightstuffer 11th October 2000 15:07

I'm on. Saturday 21 (or Sun is wx is bad on Sat). G-MOGI

3 seats going from Denham if anyone wants a lift...

New Bloke 12th October 2000 19:57

Unless it stops raining soon I won't be able to get away from Redhill. I phoned then about doing one night landing this week to get current at night, and they said I would have a better chance renewing my seaplane rating ;)

They may let us off from the southern taxiway next week, but I just hope it doesn't come to that.

Beagler 12th October 2000 23:12

Flippin (literally) weather...
Know what you mean... got out last Sunday, sort of clear and blustery to start with but by the time I got back to base it was getting dark and peeing down.
Who is to blame?
Is it the government, CAA/JAR or Kevin Keegan? :)

New Bloke 12th October 2000 23:20

I blame that Helen Young, since they promoted her the weather has been horrible. Bring back ol' whass-er-name, you know, Kevin Keegan's Sister, that Charlton woman :)

arrow2 13th October 2000 15:55

Beagler, no it has got to be Channel 4 , shooorley!!!

New Bloke - what sort of response are you getting for the Duxford jaunt?

sNr

ps - pink chit approved and activated

Cahlibahn 15th October 2000 22:09

The 4 minute trip might prove too navigationally challenging for me so I'll have to drive in http://www.pprune.org/ubb/NonCGI/confused.gif

LowNSlow 15th October 2000 23:30

rightstuffer, I think the piston engine speed record was pinched back by the P-51 Dago Red, now there's a nice PC name :)

I lean back in my chair, take a sip from my pint of Spitfire and accept the mantle of Anorak Of The Month.

I'll be driving to Duxford due to the previously mentioned woes with my wonderplane.

LowNSlow 15th October 2000 23:36

Whoops, nearly forgot,

F3F Stubby little biplane like an F4F with 4 wings

F4F Wildcat (Martlet in RN service)

F6F Hellcat

F7F Tigercat

F8F Bearcat

F9F Panther but it was ajet so doesn't really count.

I've no idea what the F1F, F2F, or F5F were.

Bak to the beer and reading

I will send out the PPR Phone number later in the week. Meanwhile, it is still persisting down here, it looks like the southern taxiway on Sat.

LowNSlow 17th October 2000 01:46

Will they let me park my car on the southern taxiway?

Flintstone 18th October 2000 01:23

Anyone going by car that would rather not pay to get in drop me a line. I have a 'Get-Into-Duxford-Free' sticker.

Two in the front, four in the back, two in the boot and a couple on the roof. Easy.
