Can we fix a date for 2003 & I'll keep it free now! Anyway , enjoy yourselves & I hope the weather is perfect for you.

Hersham Boy 14th February 2002 16:43

Stik - thanks for the offer. I'll collect contact details from you on the day and give you a buzz when next in the City Of Cathedrals. Do you realise the 2 seater earns more than most footy mangaers a year?

FNG - aeros? I should coco! Stick me down for a sesh

This is going to be a blinder!

FFF, you may be doing Blackbushe a disservice! From their site:

"Blackbushe Airport will continue to offer reduced landing fees for single and twin engined aircraft visiting Blackbushe at weekends. The offer is applicable to all private and flying school aircraft.

Landing fees will be reduced by at least 50% to £5.00 inclusive of VAT for single engined aircraft and twins charged at £8.00 inclusive of VAT up to 2700kg.

Catering facilities are available and fuel is available at competitive prices."

FlyingForFun 14th February 2002 19:12

Ah, well in that case, that would make Blackbushe a nice weekend visit any time! And there was me thinking that we'd got some kind of special treatment from them.....

Sorry, haven't been watching for a while:. .The fiver inc vat at B'bush is not meant to be a special PPRUNE rate, - when I approached them I found this is their weekend rate and such good value (includes a t+g or 2) that it is not worth negotiating down - it's just there for the taking, but PPR first.. .Now as BBushe is NE of Popham, is that enough for any student pilots, or do you want me to see what others will offer in other directions? Not much point in wasting time trying to get a negotiated deal at anywhere else if no-one wants it or is going to use it.. .ps: let me know if anyone wants a Popham brief, and also Customs IS available at Popham without diverting anywhere - just needs the usual 4 hours notice to the usual London number.

Rusty Cessna 23rd February 2002 14:32

Ohhh!

Are we less fortunate PPRuNers with no aeros capability going to be treated to a show by those with such capabilities? Would be nice!

I'm there hopefully.

I'm just back from Orlando, where I got to fly an R44 for the first time - along the beach at 300 ft, but that's irrelevant to this anyway. Well, they told me it was just like a big R22, and it is. So I'm doing some hour building in LA in April, and hoping to do the R44 conversion. If I do, and manage to get it on my UK licence by June (every type needs a conversion for helis in the UK, not in US ), then I'll possibly have THREE seats available from Wolverhampton (Halfpenny Green) for the Fly-in; not sure of cost but should be around £70-80/hour per person. It's by no means definite, but if you might be interested then e-mail me, and tell me how much you weigh as I think there can easily be weight problems 4-up in an R44.

I really fancy landing at Popham in a big heli with three passengers. :)

AC-DC 23rd February 2002 16:10

Flypuppy. .Use Lydd. They are not busy and on your way. Landing fees ~£15.

FlyingForFun 23rd February 2002 20:21

Just an idea:

Does anyone out there have any real formation-flying experience? If so, would you be happy to organise a formation flight for any pilots who wanted to take part?

From my very brief attempts at formation-flying, it is quite hard work, and I obviously don't intend to put any pressure on anyone to participate if they don't feel up to it. (Unless there's an experienced pilot who wants to brief us very thoroughly first, I won't participate myself if there are more than 3 aircraft involved.)

If the guys with experience of this kind of thing come back and say it's completely impractical for inexperienced pilots to fly in a moderately-sized formation, then we'll scrap the idea! But if the experts reckon it could be done safely, I think it would be fun!

Any other ideas for activities? Apart from the flying in and socialising, which will obviously be the main attraction!

Rusty Cessna 23rd February 2002 20:27

Aeros display perhaps?

Again, scrap idea if inpractical or unsafe.

If we do get to see a fly by formation and some aeros, this could turn out to be a wicked day!

You're right, A2. Let's keep this thing alive!!. .. .Merlot

AerBabe 7th March 2002 22:57

Back to the top.... .. .I'm hoping to take the Cherokee instead of the C152, so if someone would like to sit in the back, email me or post here! Might be able to squeeze two in... if you're little. Popham does have fuel right?

Genghis the Engineer 8th March 2002 11:43

100LL on demand up to about 5pm.. .. .G

FlyingForFun 11th March 2002 00:58

Since neither AerBabe nor I have been to Popham before (I've flown over it several times but never landed) we decided to head down there on Saturday morning to check the place out. We managed to get all of about 10 miles from White Waltham before running into the crappy weather in front of that big occluded front - the crappy whether which was forecast to not arrive until between 1 and 3 hours later!. .. .But June is a long way off, and I know the weather will be better by then! . .. .FFF. .---------

arrow2 12th March 2002 16:01

FFF, You and me both - I was heading from the Bushe to Thruxton - Cavok, unltd blue on departure, but cloud cover down v low just east of Basingstoke and Lasham was reporting fog - heard a heli on Farnborough looking at putting down in a field! Quick U turn!. .. .A2

FlyingForFun 13th March 2002 02:34

We probably heard each other on 125.25 in that case, arrow2! Plenty of people telling Farnborough they were turning around, that's for sure...
