Maurice Kirk readt to repair with pRTS tk NOW damMged oin a TERIBLE route toLoki from Narius ... John Dawson are you sure you are OK to fly? much less put an airplane back together? |
Apart from the aircraft becoming airworthy, will Maurice be fit to fly under the terms of his medical, seem unlikely based on his recent medical issues.
Also, if he did ever get to Cape Town, has he a plan to fly back to the UK, I dread to think. |
I wish Maurice well in his efforts to recover both himself and his beloved Cub. If and when he gets home to the UK; I do hope he revisits Leicester to give a repeat performance of that unforgettable and impromptu talk he gave in the clubhouse one lunchtime. I had recently retired from the CAA and was reduced to tears.....of mirth.
Come back Maurice, all is forgiven............ well nearly all. |

Quite rightly another poster has asked are you actually fit to fly. If I could hazard a guess The facebook entry could be read as follows - "Ready to repair with parts. Truck(carrying cub?) now damaged owing to terrible road from Narius to (prob) Lokichagio Airport" He had asked earlier for someone to ferry the parts from Nairobi to Loki |
Maurice Kirk: Air League Award
While the old curmudgeon aviator is still alive and generating headlines why can we not brighten up his life?
When you read this quote from Barry Tempest (ex CAA ) it puts his adventures in to context. Air League for his adventures. Can we propose him for pushing back the boundaries of basic aviation in the 21st century? Or just being an eccentric old pilot? |
It's a great shame he's not here with us in Cape Town.
I hope he's able to complete this journey. Sam. |

Actually no - he was difficult (and his aircraft navigation solutions inoperative) but I wanted to get him to CT if possible. In the end, it was not possible with us but perhaps he can do it independently...?
|
But Sam, will you be giving Maurice a full or partial refund? I think we should know!

Hi Homsap,
No, he only paid a fraction of the actual cost anyway - and still owes us several thousand USD for all his fuel and oil in Egypt, Sudan and Ethiopia! |

Hi Sam
Thank you for an open and honest answer, but I guess based on Maurice's background, he will nor let it go! I'm not sure if you have heard of Judge Rinder (the UK equivalent of Judge Judy), Maurice would be ideal for such a show. The hearings on the show are actually arbitration, but the 'judges' ruling is legally binding. The advantage is that neither party can loose costs, and the person who loses, gets their loss paid for by the TV production company. It would be a win win situation, plus we would get more great entertainment from Maurice! |
if he returns to his Cub to find it stripped to a skeleton. He can then go home safely, knowing that he had done his best against insurmountable odds. The first vanished from the rail it was attached to outside a Underground station I returned to find the new replacement one attached to the rail minus its wheels 2 weeks later I am really surprised there is anything left of his Cub In Africa |
I have bought two bikes in London in the space of four months The first vanished from the rail it was attached to outside a Underground station I returned to find the new replacement one attached to the rail minus its wheels 2 weeks late |
I've never bought Avgas in Africa, but I have bought some in Canada, at a remote outpost, whose cost was $6.83 per liter, and you have to buy the whole drum, use it or not. I was happy to pay it, and even more happy that the whole drum fit in my plane.
In northern Finland two years ago, I paid 3.85 Euro per liter, and that was at a large airport. I respect the fact that some "off the beaten track" trips, can be very costly. Pilots must go into that aware. |

I am puzzled. An elderly gent ...piloting ,force landing and bending an elderly airplane puts out a call for help. The plea for getting spares supplies etc I can understand(even if I think I would cut my losses and return home) BUT to ask for a Kenyan lawyer to continue a legal fight which originated(iirc) in the UK must surely be a bizarre request. Surely he did not set out to continue this fight by way of Kenya? Is he thinking clearly? If he were a relative of mine I would be most concerned for his wellbeing.
