yeah places like imageshack are good. Im also in the process of setting up an image gallery on my webserver to post pictures of my favourite planes etc on. That could be useful

stewmath 26th Jul 2011 14:34

Rod thats a really nice looking plane, your not far from me either in the midlands. Hope to be seeing u fly over some day :)

gasax 26th Jul 2011 15:47

Frankly I cannot see why anyone would bother - I've just googled my registration and my 5 year old aircraft has at least 12 different sites with photos - including G-INFO!

Naturally I did not take a single one of them!

Just for general interest. Some people like looking at planes and its for a chance for owners to show off there pride and joy.

Any thoughts on why some of the photos of your aircraft can be copyrighted? Seems to me that in most cases your permission to take photographs was not authorised or granted! And does it mean that if I photo-shop someone elses picture I can copyright it too?

In the UK, copyright of a photograph taken from a place to which the public has access, is always with the photographer.

Human beings use release forms for photography, but that is over invasion of privacy issues, not copyright issues.

G

jxk 26th Jul 2011 17:13

Genghis - it still doesn't seem right that a picture of your property can copyrighted. I assume that by copyrighting, the photographer is hoping to make money from it.

Genghis the Engineer 26th Jul 2011 17:33

You can't "copyright" something, it is automatically the copyright of the photographer, by law. (c) statements are simply somebody clarifying that fact.

It is then the "right" of the copyright holder to decide who may "copy" the image. They can (and often do in aviation) let you do so for free, or they can charge money, or they can simply prohibit it. It is entirely their choice.

This has been the law for the best part of a century, the only significant changes being about how long copyright lasts. It applies equally to the written word.

G

This post (c) Genghis the Engineer 2011, all rights reserved. <-- this statement legally true whether I said it or not. Same for everybody else's posts.

The500man 26th Jul 2011 17:43

I would have thought PPRuNe had the copyright on stuff posted on this forum. Isn't it somewhere in the terms & conditions that no one has ever read?

Genghis the Engineer 26th Jul 2011 17:49

Nope. All it says is that you may not post copyrighted material that you have no right to.

G

SDB73 26th Jul 2011 17:52

Yeah, although it's only an academic point, PPRuNe will almost certainly own the copyright to your written words on here.

The good news is, it usually means they're responsible for them also. Which is why forum owners have to be very careful about libel laws, as they are the ones choosing the publish the words, it just so happens they allow others free will to decide what they publish - at least temporarily.

Genghis the Engineer 26th Jul 2011 17:58

I think, technically, we are licencing the right to publish to them.

A publisher and a copyright holder are not (necessarily) the same.

The Ts&Cs really don't say anything about it, but this would be my understanding having worried quite a lot about book/magazine copyright issues over the years.

G

stickandrudderman 26th Jul 2011 19:17

I thought this thread was so that people could post pictures?

Jan Olieslagers 26th Jul 2011 19:29

Don't be fundamentalist - especially not if that basic purpose can't be met anyway, as was my case.

stewmath 26th Jul 2011 19:52

lol ive started something here aint i, lol.

If the person took the picture and posted it then its perfectly fine to do so.

Also if someone else took the picture of your plane and you posted it im sure they are not going to be anal enough to say anything.

Genghis the Engineer 26th Jul 2011 21:34

Well said Stewmath - how about more pictures of peoples flying machines?

Please ensure that your photographs (of which I hope there will be many) fit into the standard page width, and are therefore limited to 1024 in width.

Adam, nice plane. Very nice!

AdamFrisch 27th Jul 2011 11:59

Until you get up close and see the peel painting off and the surface corrosion and all the hangar rash;)

Next is a complete strip job to bare metal and see what needs fixing after that.

That looks in good nick Steven, is it about a '67 or '68 model? We have an 'aitch' at our club, it's very nice to fly and stops in midair with those 40 degree flaps.

Pilot DAR 5th Aug 2011 23:55

I am lucky to have two delightful aircraft which I keep here at home, and fly regularly: My 1975 Cessna 150, which I have owned for 24 years,

And the 1977 Thurston Teal, of which I have been custodian for 3 years. It is now for sale on behalf of it's Scandinavian owner.

Love both of those shots! How do you figure out whether the ice is thick enough? I'm also impressed with the sky.........I remember a day like that in UK about 12 years ago.......

AdamFrisch 6th Aug 2011 03:14

DAR - how's the Thurston to fly compared to the Lake Buccaneer? I have a huge amount of love for the Lakes and would love to one day have one...

Pilot DAR 6th Aug 2011 03:16

It can be very difficult to determine the thickness of the ice from the air. The sure thing, which I do when in doubt, is to put on an dry immersion suit, and walk the ice first. I take a battery drill, with a 12" long auger, and drill the ice, in a number of places where I propose to land. With totally clear ice, what you see is what you get. Other types of ice can be treacherous, even when "thick".

The ice pictured here is 10" thick, and that's the bottom of the lake 12 feet down you can see under the wheel!
