How do you post these pictures? I was going to add a couple of my plane but I couldn't make it work. I click on the "picture" button then add the URL for Flickr between the brackets, but nothing appears. Does Pprune refuse to work with Flickr?

Thank you!
Here's a couple of views of/from my favourite Pitts, N15TA. Not mine but I often fly it. http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4149/4...6828a04a49.jpg http://farm5.staticflickr.com/4136/4...8681ed399a.jpg |
In a group owning one, started learning on the other. Unfortunately the Bolkow isn't in the air at the moment :(. Not my pic so apologise for the size.

referring back a page or two, re- distress-signified by flying a flag inverted.
Look closely at a Union Flag (aka Union Jack) you will observe that the white diagonals are assymetricaly displaced wrt the red "X" (but it does help if you can remember if the broader white should be above or below! :O |
Being ex RN I can't remember :O I think the wide white is up?
|
Crash one,
If you had been a Boy Scout, you would have remembered! ;) The wide white stripe is uppermost near the hoist and lowermost near the fly. I've always thought it would be an exercise in futility to fly it upside down and expect to be rescued. Now, with a Red Ensign (or White in Crash one's case), you might stand a better chance. |
It all comes back now!
Imagine the white "X" is solid , with the red one superimposed, -rotate the white one slightly clockwise (flagstaff to the left0 and there you have it1 wide white lower at the pole and higher at the free -end. now I just have to remember that it's the white that is rotated and not the red :} |

You don't need TCAS on that one :E
|
That is for sure. If people don't see us coming, then they really should have their medical pulled :D

Hi I will try to make it smaller but it is a VERY BIG Biplane!

Boy, I love this thread!
90% of all discussions on here are about rules and regulation while its nice just to talk and SEE aircraft! Not the best quality but a nice image of me trying to put her down smoothly the other day: https://dl.dropbox.com/u/3820316/Scr...2011.06.56.jpg Cheers! ###Ultra Long Hauler### |

My Maule, I have recently changed the wheels for 26" tundra tyres
N3110J Maule, Scone | Flickr - Photo Sharing! |
Nice Maule Piperboy. Take care with 26" tudra tires on pavement runways, they are surprisingly grabby, and demand even more precise directional control. I used to fly a taildragger C150 with such tires. Magnificent on grass, extra challenging on pavement...

[quoteNice Maule Piperboy. Take care with 26" tudra tires on pavement runways][/quote] Thanks, I just got then 26" Alaskan's on this week and have done a total of 4 grass landings and am somewhat dreading my first tar landing for the reason you mentioned. What would you estimate the pressure should be on them as a compromise for landing on both grass and ta? the manufacturer lists a minimum of 8PS and a MAX of 20PSI, i have them at 14 right now for no other reason than i figured that was about in the middle of the range. I usually fly the Maule at 400 under gross for most flights |
@DAR: excuse this newbie question: what's the issue? Would the tundra rubber have too much grip, making runway axis alignment super citical?

The winds were very differnt today, and allowed me to land at offshore islands previously not possible to access by seaplane. It was worth it!

Stiknruda,
Are you one of the display pilots for Leuchars this year ? See you there !! |
Jan, my understanding is this. Tailwheel aircraft are generally much easier to land on grass because the little wheel at the back provides quite a lot of braking on the rough grass and the big tyres at the front tend to run over the grass quite easily. So it adds stability on the ground roll.
Transfer that to hard tarmac and the opposite becomes true, the big wheels at the front want to slow down quicker than the little trolley wheel at the back. The net effect is that the back is much more inclined to want to be ahead of the front :) groundloop here we come. Increase the size and squishyness of the front tyres then you make the situation more exaggerated because on rough ground the front will skip over much more quickly but in return on the hard ground the front tyres will be very slow indeed. |

My glider picture was deleted because I didn't size it down. Hopefully this should be better. This is my hobby, hope to fly it next year.

How to make a Turston Teal look pretty....
What does one do to make a fairly ugly plane look pretty? Put a gorgeous bride in front of it!
I'd left the plane parked in the middle of the runway, simply to prevent anyone dropping in on wedding day in August. Apparently the wedding photographer did not realize that a Teal is not pretty, and used it as a background for one of many photographs of my daughter looking the the most beautiful that she ever has... http://i381.photobucket.com/albums/o...ps59dd46e7.jpg Photo credit to Ingrid Cochrane, |
