Have been inspired.... a plan is forming...........does any one know of any decent hotels with adjacent airstrip..........
|
I think there have been a few mentioned already and several pubs are also hotels, or will offer accommodation. Specific hotels which spring to mind include Sywell, Kirkbride, and Glenforsa.
Edit. A certain vested interest forumite beat me to it.;) |
I am new to this forum and spotted enrty for Charlton Park. Thanks to Lord Suffolk I was fortunate to keep my '172 there for about 20 years. A great place, vacated briefly when the airfield was taken over by a film crew and about 6 spitfires to film "A piece of cake". Paradise is hardly the word. Now I live in France with my '172 which has "come home" to where it was built 42 years ago. Here we have both found paradise again.
Hopefully photo attached. Excuse first time errors. RT Charlton Park http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...may2005010.jpg Atlantic Airpark France http://i271.photobucket.com/albums/j...o/100_0989.jpg |
ronturner,
Thanks for sharing. Its a very nice place to keep a lovely Cessna. Cheers TWP |
Very appropriate colour scheme and settings. It's making us all green with envy. :ok:

Fantastic little post! Superb photo.

Thanks for the pictures, Silvaire1.
Only in America, Canada or Auz. for a gaggle of aircraft like those! Oh by the way, going to a pub for lunch getting into some of the sauce and then going for a flight boggles the noggin. I don't consume alcohol but I love to fly my Cessna in the great big land in the west. |
Great to see more photos for the other side of the world. Would be great to see more for the UK strips.........
I have put together a simple spreadsheet with a few strips on it, and links to contact information for both the strips and the "pubs". If anyone wants a copy drop me a PM. Cheers TWP |
I remember this plane form my childhood growing up @ charlton park (Lord S is my step father). Most of my family fly now and indeed the love has been passed on to me. I organised a fly in at Charlton in May (and will be making this an annual affair)- some great planes turned up (it was only small) c 20 ppl - check this link for the photos (the ones at the end are better) http://gallery.me.com/peregrinehood#100050

Great venue for a fly in, and some nice stuff there. Annual fly in excellent idea!
|
the hurricane and the beech 18 were fantastic - but all planes were fantastic and even got a kindly soul from Bristol ATC to operate the radio. Next one will be in May next year before the aerobatic season gets underway

Will you post the details on PPRUNE, or elsewhere?
|
will be sure to yes

Fly in at Atlantic Airpark
I would like to refer you back to my first post on this forum (12th June) and make you aware of a fly-in at Atlantic Airpark in France. We are a friendly bunch and we will be holding our 10th anniversary "Pique-nique d'eté" on JULY 17th. You can be assured of an informal atmosphere, great food, music and some aerobatics. No landing fees and no yellow jackets or any of that kind of rubbish but you MUST be invited, you MUST reserve your place and you MUST get your landing authorisation at least 4 days in advance. The meal, of excellent quality, will cost you 18 Euro including drinks.
You can express your interest and solicit an invitation and landing authorisation by asking me ( ) , or any other co-owner, and you can find where we are by looking at www.atlanticairpark.com There is a pub/restaurant within walking distance of the Airpark so this post can rightly belong where it is. Happy flying Ron Turner Président - Association of co-owners, AAP |
peregrineh,
yes please let us know if/when you plan another flyin...would love to come, thanks for sharing your photos. |
Sandown (EGHN)
My vote goes to SANDOWN, Isle of Wight.
Maybe not a pub, but Carla's butties are to die for. |
Hi All,
Thanks for the emails ref the spreadsheet. Nice to know that a few of you have gone to Charlton Park. Due to a late take off (don't ask!) We were looking for a pub that was open and serving food all day. And we found a great one. The airfield is Croft Farm, and the pub is The Bell Eckington Its a long walk so drive if you can get a lift! We went to Ledbuy on Saturday......great little strip (well if you call 800m little).
Very friendly and worth a visit, please be aware there is a lack of parking for the next few months as they are building new hangers. The pub needs a little bit of x/c walking but was ok. Portions are a little small of the lunch menu. The Royal Oak at Much Marcle, a country pub open 7 days a week for high quality pub dining and accommodation. Anyone got any new strips to add?? |
Going back to the start of this thread by One2go......
Popped into Clutton Hill on Wednesday. Great little strip. Good pub as well. And very close. http://farm7.static.flickr.com/6157/...9f4d6ccc_m.jpg Clutton Hill... by Air Frame Photography, on Flickr |
Enstone is a nice airfield with a great pub down the road, you can either walk or get a taxi.
