Has anyone been anywhere?
Back to normal tomorrow.....not sure where yet?

Not really a farm strip, we went to Old Buckenham today, good food and a very warm welcome.
We even got a guided tour of the hangers and got to look at some of the stuff being rebuilt by Touchdown Engineering.
Worth a visit............

Bembridge, new chef in the cafe there, v enthusiastic, and good grub. Dont know about the pub next to the gliding site though. Alderney...walk down the zigzag, overlooking fort clonque, then allong the beach path to st annes harbour. either the pub there or even better is the hotel 10 mins away, not the one next to said pub!
Good grub and excellent beer at roserrow , polzeath, n cornwall, especially roast on a sunday lunchtime. Its a golf course but you get ripped off , £20 for landing, 5 mins to the bar.

We have not been anywhere new for a while....but today we went to Hanley Hanley (William) Airfield today.....and what a great strip. I rang for PPR and I was asked for my ETA, and I told her that we would be there around 12(ish) the reply was i will put the kettle on.......a very good start.
I got a good brief, which was very helpful.
When we got there there was a nice welcome..and a nice cupper.
We went the closet pub "The Fox" but this was not so good....!!! one star! But there is another pub half a mile up the road so we will try that next time we go!
This strip is very much PPR as they only fly on the 28 day rule. But is well worth a visit.

For enlightened pilots who have a northern 1/2 mill map, there's Crosland Moor, which does have a partly grass strip.
Just a short 10 minute walk from the airfield is the Sands House pub. Never heard any complaints from that one apart from it's uphill back to the airfield...:)

Pitsford

Try Pitsford (3 miles west of Sywell, next to the reservoir, 52°18'54.97"N 0°52'20.54"W). PPR not required. 470 mt grass strip. It's a super little strip with no facilities whatsoever. Sign in at the dustbin by the windsock :ok:

Agree with that - Lord Suffolk is very friendly and welcoming - and will supply you with Avgas if needed.

Went to Sackville farm today....a nice warm welcome. And when we rang for PPR we got the same warm welcome.
great pub in Riseley village. The Fox and Hounds, they do a good steak, a proper old English pub. And only a 10 minute walk.

For those going farther out

Lots of airfields in Czech Republic have a small restaurant right on the property. When ordering, keep in mind that portions may come twice as big as you expect.

And if anyone goes to Thailand, do yourself a favour and check out the Thai Flying Club at Bang Phra (about halfway from Bangkok to Pattaya). The place looks like it's still 1950s (or maybe 1930s?).
You can have lunch right at the club, sipping a coke from a classic glass bottle, sitting on a veranda with a backup TWR radio on one of the tables (and a squawk box hanging on a pillar, of course), a hammock in the corner with the chief mechanic dozing in it, and dozens of thin cats swarming around.

Their airfcraft rental rates are fairly low, too. In September 2009 I rented a Beech Musketeer for an equivalent of £100 per hour (wet). You can stay overnight at the club, too; the rooms are quite rustic but extremely cheap.
