PPL test - Time frames?

Isn't there a time frame for the written tests or something, for example: You have to complete all the written tests in less than a year from when you took the first one and then have to take the skills test within a year of completing the written tests?

Or am I talking utter tosh?

I thought if for example you took the written tests but didn't get round to flying for a while, you would have to do them again before taking the skills test... Does this apply to other aspects of the PPL, like the qualiflier and solo?

What is the time frame?

Thanks
