cost of a paint job
Has any body had an archer, or same size. painted in the past year, and at what cost.
I am getting quotes of around 6 grand.
So can any of you good folk beat that. and if so where?

Getting my arrow done this year by flying colours (scotland) - full bare metal and any scheme you want for uner £4,500 no VAT. If you want his number or e mail drop me a line.

A complete paint job on a PA28 at one of the top UK painters is around £6k.
You can get it cheaper - we did, a few years ago - and then had to have it repaired soon after. Meanwhile, the original firm had "gone out of business" (ie changed its name) and there was no recourse for the lousy job done.
Next time it needs a full repaint, it will be by Colton (or similar).
If you don't want the whole aircraft stripped to bare metal and repainted from scratch, you can get the work done for a lot less. It rather depends on how bad the paint is now.

You get what you pay for.
If you want a quick blow (over) Job...! and are happy to accept the inevitable poor masking, colour coded door rubbers and wing seals etc (ugh!) then you should get it for a few grand.
However, I have a suggestion for you.
Fly down in the aircraft to Turweston (just up the road from Silverstone) and let Mick Allen of Mick Allen Resprays take a look at it.
You will also be able to see his work - probably a similar machine (or two) to yours in the paint shop.
He takes all the bits off, repairs the spats, etc, etc. and does a thorough bare metal job. He has a proper oven and also won't add an 'invisible passenger' by putting too much on - a common disappointment.
So - if you want it done right and want a lump in the right place when it comes out - all polished up and looking like a new plane - pay the money. It will be reflected in the resale value and well worth it.
Having said all that, the pleasant surprise is the cost.
Go see Mick - lovely guy, total professional, knows his business inside out.
