EASA hours towards UK CAA PPL
Hi,
Sorry if I am asking this in the wrong section however was just looking to see if anyone has any knowledge on my situation whilst I wait endlessly for UK CAA to respond.
I completed my flying hours in Spain at a school which operated under Malta, the exams were sat under Malta I’m unsure if the flying hours are also related to Malta. However I completed all my flying hours there (solo, cross country, long cross country etc) and left with around 47 hours, however due to a few different reasons I was unable to sit my exams there. I would like to know if I complete a UK CAA class 2 medical, redo my radio exam under UK CAA can I use those hours and sit UK CAA exams for my PPL and just complete my skills test here and be awarded a UK CAA PPL? I have asked a few schools however nothing clear and been told to email UK CAA which I have, I was hoping someone on here would have some more information if so I’d really appreciate it thanks.

I obviously can't answer for the CAA but, if they apply the same logic where they are allowing EASA licence holders from the rest of Europe to use those licences to fly in the UK, they may recognise your hours. However, at the moment you are still a student, and finishing in the UK would at least be considered as changing your training provider. Unless the CAA agree to recognise a recommendation as ready for test from Malta. If they do not, you would need to be assessed by your chosen UK provider. That provider would need to examine your log book and a copy of your student training record from Malta (which you would have to formally request they send). Depending on how long ago the training was, they may decide refresher training and/or a mock test be flown before recommending you for the LST here. In any case, you would need some dual flying to become familiar with how different things are in the UK skies, in order to fly safely and confidently.
The UK are accepting training conducted under an EASA State for a 24 month period so that should not be a problem as long as its all in date. There is an Examiner at Exeter who holds approvals under Malta and the UK who could do your test and FRTOL. Probably easier to get it sorted under the Malta DGAC then apply in UK so long as you have a UK medical.
