Recording audio to phone...Help.

Hi All,

Hoping for an easy solution (aren't we all)...

Hardware being used (though anything else such as cable or adaptors can be ordered of course):

Bose A20 headset with BT.
iPhone 12

Requirement: Whilst recording video on the phone, to simultaneously capture the audio from the A20 microphone.

You'd have thought it would be easy, but it doesn't seem to be - at the same time, I have zero competence in phones/bluetooth etc.

Thank you for any help!

Help!

The simplest way is to put the iPhone earbud microphone in one of the headset earcups.

Well, I'm just wondering if that's not genius.

Thank you. Will take a look!

it is 'another' separate device that needs charging etc - but will certainly suit the purpose admirably. OOTB - brilliant.

Okay, so not so brilliant. Apple (bless their cotton socks) don't allow the earbud microphone to be used when recording video. Calls, sure. Voicenotes, yeah. Narration for your video? Nope.

Go figure...

There are apparently third party video apps that work around this, but the included Apple video solution, no.

You will probably need a software package, like Final cut Pro to record alternative audio, (other editing packages are no doubt available). I have sent this question to my son, who might know a way. I will let you know if he does.

.......He suggests Filmic Pro.

“Okay, so not so brilliant.“

Sorry about that Sam. I’ve only used that technique for audio recording.

Could you use two phones?

A dictaphone with mic under headset? I've a Sony one, and have thought of trying it, but haven't so far. Save to computer and add to video.

Cassette tapes, remember them? We used to use the earphone as a mic and slip it in the headset ear cup, worked a treat.

Another forum suggests that if you start the camera app THEN plug in the external microphone it will take the external audio feed.

Aircraft Spruce: PILOT USA DIGITAL AUDIO RECORDER ADAPTER - DUAL GA HEADSET.
Sorry, not enough posts yet for me to give the url.

Plug it into you plane headphone jack, Headphone to it and the 3.5mm plug to phone. I have one, use it all the time. I also used it with a GoPro external mic adapter to add audio to my video recording of all flights.

I am using a NFlight cable for iPhone to plug the iPhone into the PJ (https://www.aircraftspruce.com/catal...ht11-14391.php and with the new lightning iPhone that little connector). Unfortunately Apples built in camera app does not allow to capture using that audio, but almost any other cam app does it.
