Saltersgate airfield, still extant?

Does anyone know if Saltersgate airfield is still operational? I heard that it was run by a cheerful Scotsman, contact details would be helpful. I am looking for hangarage in the Pickering, NY area but would settle for an outdoor tie-down if the site is secure, ie operator or friendly farmer living on site.

Thanks,

Rans6.........

I reckon the NY does not stand for New York? Crossing the big pond with your humble S6 ?
If it stands for North Yorkshire, as I think may be assumed, then here's a few I found:

*/ ex RAF base at Wombleton, doubtlessly known to you - for me a fond memory from the time it was the Europa "factory airfield"
*/ airstrip at Newton-on-Ratcliffe: https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/7342516666
*/ decent looking farm strip "Ings Farm": https://www.openstreetmap.org/node/7213986348

But where exactly is/was this Saltersgate field? No such name in my records, as yet..?

The airfield at Salters Gate is used by Paul and his wife. They have a Hornet Moth and an Aeronca pup.
As far as I know access is very limited due to farmers restrictions.
There certainly won't be hangarage there. I expect if there was the queue would be very long.

thanks for the airfield offerings. I had heard of the Newton-on-Rawcliffe (NOT RATCLIFFE!) strip from the wife of a deceased aviator I used to know. She only described it as "near to the village north of Pickering" but was not able to remember which village. Incidently, Jan, the Saltergate airstrip appears on the N-on-R map you posted if you zoom out a couple of clicks, head north east until you cross the A169 and it will be ahead of you, south east of the hairpin bend.

I have investigated Wombleton, apparently it is only available for customers of an aircraft servicing outfit who threw all of the private aircraft off a few years ago.

I have, just last week, been to look at Fadmoor. It is still open but the operator would not be dawn on if/when hangarage might be available or how much it would cost. He did show us around and also showed us his log books and some photos of his flying exploits............. I'll give him another call if nothing else comes up soon.

I had contact details for an airstrip at the back of the Ladycross Plantation caravan site, Egton but a phone call told me that it had been sold to the caravan site and although there is still an aircraft there it will be leaving soon. The site is to be redeveloped as part of the caravan park.

We are heading back to Yorkshire tomorrow so I will try to find Ings Farm, Saltergate and Newton-on-Rawcliffe over the weekend.

Thanks for your suggestions.

Thumbs up

Newton-on-Rawcliffe shows on Google Earth, at N54.17.26.76 W0.44.40.00, 1200 m on a 155° heading from the village. There appear to be two grass runways, one 17/35 ~600 m, and one 15/33, ~300 m or so, with a hangar to the South (a light aircraft can even be seen). The entrance seems to be on Ruddings Road. Salters Gate shows at N54.19.44.89 W0.41.01.97, with one 550 m 18/36 runway. Entrance apparently on Old Wife's Way (!)

My kind of airfields!

Cheers
