What's the Britannia Flight Centre locale like?

I'm considering zipping over to Winterhaven to do a spot of hour building and my MEP rating.

Can anyone who's been there comment on the locale? Are there any decent restaurants or bars close to hand?

I've looked on the Britannia webpage and the place doesn't look to promising for the night life - at least from the aerial photos they've included.

Not been to Britannia but a couple of years ago I drove through Winterhaven; it seemed pretty much a "one horse town" - like a lot of relatively rural American towns.

From my brief recollection I'd not go there for the night life!

Made a forced landing at Winter Haven in May. Had to wait around for a couple of hours for an engineer to drive down from Kissimmee and look at the 'plane and then give me a lift back. Whilst I was waiting, the (very helpful) guy from Britannia gave me a lift to the 'nearest' place to get something to eat. This was 10 mins drive, and I have to say that Winter Haven looked like the back of beyond, with not-a-lot there...

But I was only there a couple of hours so cannot say with hand-on-heart.

Went there about 2 years ago. There's not much to do in Winter Haven at night I'm afraid. There's a few bars and a night club, but they're only really good for mullet spotting if you want a grin!!

I remember one night there was a big storm coming in, so knowing we wouldn’t be flying the following day, we went out for a big one. Anyway, after the one club that was in town closed for the night, we were talked into going to another one that was open until some stupid time. “Great” we thought, with bellies full of beer. Until we got there and found out it was a no alcohol affair!!!! Should give you some idea of what Winter Haven’s like.

However, don’t let this stop you from going there, we still managed to have a good time. When I was there all the students and instructors would go up to Orlando every Friday for a night out. And although I never went there, I believe there’s a Hooters just down the road in Lakeland – always a laugh!!!!

Good luck and enjoy.
Cheers
