Cheap tablets with Sky Demon

Cheap tablets with Sky Demon
I have been using my i-pad with Sky Demon, but find it slightly too large on my knee. I am tempted to get a cheapish tablet, under £100 for mounting on a yoke bracket. A smaller display but more conveniently sited. Perhaps a simply question, but would Sky Demon run OK on a cheap tablet?
Thanks in advance for any helpfull comments.

I bought a Lenovo Yoga2 8" tablet for my friend. Nice compact size, excellent battery life at 18 hours, excellent stereo sound, very reasonable price. Runs SD nicely with the external GNS2000 Bluetooth receiver of even the internal GPS.

If you got used to the effectiveness of the Apple Environment, you might be dissappointed by a cheap solution and an iPad Mini (4, as this earns highest ratings & reviews actually) may be best art of choice. An Android solution does its job and if its destined to one purpose maybe even well, but you also may encounter a lot of more maybes when time goes by, updates have to be done etc. I advise to check forums.skydemon.aero for an impression on the different mood in discussions of iOS vs Android usage. You will find i.e. a discussion on Tesco as well. Built your opinion on reading Skydemons forums and decide what you feel is best for you.

Thanks for all the replies. I am using a Garmin GPS to feed the i pad. I was just looking for a cheap smaller screen for easy mounting. It would only be used for in flight nav. Just checking that a cheap alternative would not lack the neccessary processing power etc for SD.
Thanks again to all.

Rob from SkyDemon here!
If you are looking for a low cost tablet, you could do a lot worse than the Tesco Hudl2. It is surprisingly smooth and robust for a cheap android tablet, and we actually use one as part of our internal testing suite of devices.
You might find that connecting your Garmin Glo to it is a bit of a pain(requiring mucking about in menus) but since it already has GPS included, that effort might be superfluous.
If you have already grown accustomed to the Apple-y way of doing things then learning the Android operating system might be a bit tedious though...

Yes, Hudl 2 has GPS:
Sensors
GPS, 3-axis Accelerometer, e-Compass, Gyroscope, Ambient Light Sensor
Battery life is not brilliant so a USB supply would be desireable
Hudl 2 ? The new 8.3? Tablet - Bigger, better, faster - Tesco.com - Tesco

The Hudl2 is a real nice little tablet and best of all, it is affordable to keep a second as backup if one breaks. A friend put one permanently in his plane and is quite happy with it (he is an Android guy and loves to fumble around on the devices, but lack a wifey, so there may be some side effects ;-) ... but thats another story). He has a second device I have not seen in action, but maybe Rob can say a bit more wether that runs SD as well - it is this 20£ China tablet: https://www.chinavasion.com/china/wh...t-Orion-Black/ (has no internal GPS).
If you are used to using awkward Garmin GPS "logic" menus, Android KitKat is not that bad, compared, but train on the ground before and enjoy i.e. SD. I was positively surprised how well it does its single job there, but as mentioned before, get a permanent power connection, or always take-off with fully charges battery, that is a weak point.

Tesco discontinued the HUDL 2 mid Oct. I got one from the Tesco Outlet ebay site but they too have run out I think. Not sure whether Tesco will offer further Android updates for existing owners either. No word of a HUDL 3 either.

Google
tesco hudl discontinued
Also I called several stores at the end of oct to be told the same. Plus it's not available on line from Tesco direct.
I got a refurb one from Tesco Outlet Ebay shop a couple of weeks ago for £79.
You may be lucky to find a store with some stock left. Sounds like you've done well to find a store that can get you some stock. I'd take them up on the offer.

My guess is there will never be a Hudl3.
What the people involved leaving T and having sold their movie streaming offering I guess T are abandoning that aspect of their business totally.

Argos are selling the 2013 Nexus 7 16gb for £97.97 on offer at the moment if that helps anyone. Black Friday may yield some offers. Nexus 7 2013 is getting on a bit and 16Gb is not great. I don't think there is an SD slot in them either.
