converting a uk cpl to a uk ppl

i would like to go back flying again after several years , my atpls exams are expired , and i converted my jaa cpl to an easa cpl a few years back as i didnt want to loose the cpl

i am now 40 so the chances of making it commercially are very slim.

however recently i went to a local flying school to get my single engine revalidation , however because i hold a cpl they wanted to charge me 240 euros an hour where as if it was a ppl it would only be 185 euros an hour.
despite the single engine revalidation being the same for both , the price difference was 55 euros an hour . i was hoping to do it there as i live near the school , nearest other school is 70 miles.

i must ring the caa uk next week as surly it should be easy to get a uk ppl based on a uk cpl so that i can go flying again.

i thought it was a bit harsh by the school , anyones thoughts?

Go to a school that's not going to rape you rather give up a hard earned privilege.

We don't charge any more regardless of the type of licence. Sep is sep.

I would see if you can talk with an adult, then explain the position and ask if they want your business or not, personally if they still insisted on this I would take my business elsewhere anyway - but then I can be an awkward so and so with idiots like that!

Am I missing something, as a CPL holder you automatically have PPL privileges.

a cpl does i suppose , but if asked to produce a license and once they see the cpl , then its the higher rate . a s/e rating is exactly the same for both as i far i know, thanks for input guys

As suggested, tell 'em to stick their "offer" where the sun don't shine ,then go forth and multiply.

Iwould need an extremely humble, grovelling apology from a school like that, before I would even consider further discussion with them, and i'd expect a "lower than ppl rate on the basis that, if i were qualified to CPL level, I'm already demonstrably more proficient than a PPL, therefore their job is easier!

I'd go out of my way to go elsewhere and tell them just why they are not getting my cash.....robbing barstewards!

As others have said.

It's an SEP rating you're revalidating, the licence it's attached to is and should remain irrelevant.

A school with this attitude probably have other bad habits as well, I'd go elsewhere.

And more than that - tell us who these idiots are

I've never heard anything so blatantly exploitative in 40 years!

I have to agree with all of the above comments.

Renewing an SEP Class Rating requires exactly the same actions and qualifications, regardless of the Licence to which it is attached.

There is no justification for a higher charge.

I think that Foxmoth's advice is exactly what I would do in your place.

I would see if you can talk with an adult, then explain the position and ask if they want your business or not, personally if they still insisted on this I would take my business elsewhere anyway...

Devil How much?

There are parts of the male anatomy which should only be touched when having a medical - not when booking a flight!
