FAA Piggy-back Licences
If you have a FAA 61.75 Certificate that is issued on "basis of and valid only when accompanied by UK pilot licence number 12345", I know you have to do a BFR.
But do you have to hold a valid FAA Medical ?
And if you have an Instrument Rating on that Certificate (put on by simply taking and passing the Instrument Foreign Pilot Knowledge Test) do you have to keep the FAA IR current by doing an annual IPC or complete the 6 items.
NB. Apparently the UK Licence on which the FAA Certificate is based has a valid IR and valid
Medical Certificate.

The wording for the piggyback certificate requires your underlying licence to be valid, which is partly what the medical achieves.
So if your "foreign" medical is current, you're OK. You don't need an FAA medical as well.
Here's the wording for 14 CFR Part 61, Section 61.75 which says in part (note the "or"):

Yes. In just the same way as you have to do a BFR.
