Well, finally done skills test, and sent away for my licence two weeks ago. However, I've got nothing back yet, and the cheque, (for the fee), hasn't been cleared.
How long do you usually have to wait for your licence to arrive at your home. (looking at Postie every day with trepidation and hope!!).
Also, am I legal to fly AS a PPL before actually physically having the licence, (I know you can when you pass your driving test).
Somebody please put me out of my misery and answer...!
Thanx - bamboo

I am in exactly the same position, but I only posted mine yesterday.
The CFI at my flying school is quite happy to rent me an aircraft whilst I am waiting, I just cannot take passengers. I assume that this means its all legal and above board.

You can give them a ring at Gatwick (number is on the CAA SRG web site) and they ought to be able to tell you where your application is. This time last year they were taking 12 working days. If you are really keen to get it and can get to Gatwick then as soon as they have done the paperwork you can go and collect it.
In the meantime you can fly but cannot take passengers. Good opportunity to consolidate and do a few solo trips to nearby aerodromes!
Happy flying!

Having just had a look at the CAA web site... it has all changed and for the life of me I could not see a link to the SRG anymore. It is at www.srg.caa.co.uk, but quite how you are supposed to find it now I don't know. Anyway the number is 01293 567171 and you need to ask for Flight Crew Licensing.

Sent my application off a while ago and was promised it within 10 working days. After about 4 weeks of waiting I called them up to enquire. It took them about 15 minutes to find it and after all that time they said that no one had even looked at it.
At the same time a class-mate of mine sent his off a week after me and got it back a week before I got mine - good old CAA, a quality act.

Why do it if it's not fun?

Congrats!
Regarding flying before you get your license. I think (and I know I'll be corrected if I'm wrong) that you're still, legally, a student. Thus, you can't carry passengers (as someone else said). But you also need an instructor to sign you out. That's certainly what happened at my school, anyway.

First of all congratulations on passing, I feel sure your bit of paper will be with you very soon, but ring them up as suggested and you should get an update.
For what it's worth there is a way of getting your PPL same day! you have to put yourself out a bit but it is possible, the CAA don't advertise this fact so please no requests how it's done......but it shouldn't take too much working out now should it.....I got mine same day but it took a round trip of 350 miles....... well worth it when you consider all those days looking out for the postie.
Yes you can fly solo no problem but you cannot take pax untill you have the bit of paper.......maybe a good time to bet some circuts in.
WELL DONE!!!
