Lille - lesquin

Hi all, In July I am thinking of flying into Lille-Lesquin from Biggin Hill in my RV6. Nice easy flight - almost a straight line and about 1hr 15mins.
Does anyone know the current landing fees and whether there is cheap overnight parking, or whether you need to have handling ? The RV6 weighs 726kg ( 1600lbs ). I do have a copy of the charts from the SIA web site.
Also, I note that there is now a GA terminal - Is this anywhere near the main terminal for the bus into town ? Hopefully someone has been there recently ?

I really cannot remember this airport as the last time I was there was about 20 years ago having diverted into there on the way back from Italy due to bad weather. That was in our Robin going back to Thurrock.

Thanks JOHN

Hi, we flew in last Friday in a PA28 from Cabair, Biggin Hill. Took about 1 hr 25 min. Good RT service from Lille Info. Landing fee and lunchtime parking all of 14 euros! A nice lady met us at the plane, drove us to the terminal (2 mins) and escorted us through security. The same in reverse going back. All so easy! Shuttle bus into town takes 15 - 20 mins and costs 9 euros return.

Do email your details in advance to [email protected] so they can book you in.

Have fun!

I cant recall the landing fee - but it is peanuts.

The GA terminal is about 200 yards from the main terminal. The form is they send a mini bus from the main terminal to take you back to the main terminal to clear customs. Customs can be a bit of an ordeal - usual big airport nonesense, which will go smoothly if the customs man is not having his lunch - otherwise it might take half an hour or so.

Buses run from the main terminal into Lille every half an hour or there is usually a fleet of taxis on standby.

You pay your landing fee in the GA terminal. No problem parking, there is acres of space. If you are affiliated to a flying school you get a discount.

There is one "trick" - there is a gate between the GA terminal and the main terminal with a seperate security guard in attendance. You can usually clear back into the airport through this gate and be scanned rather than get held up with other passengers. Check to see or ask if the gate is manned when you are taken to the main terminal.

Not a lot happens at Lille and I have always had a very cordial reception.

Enjoy.

I spent the summer of 2008 working in Lille and used my aircraft to commute from the UK, it is a very good setup for GA.

ATC is very helpfull but usualy expect you to use the VFR reporting points if the airfield has IFR traffic.

With an ILS on one end and VOR or GPS approaches on the other it is well equiped if the weather is not good, but over the whole summer I only had to do three approches "to limits" due weather (one ILS & one GPS in my aircraft) and then at the start October the fog started to be a problem and I had to do what is to date my only CAT3B no DH autoland.

Just one thing to remember after you park you may have to phone the GA people as they are usualy in the main terminal, there is a phone on the outside of the GA terminal.

As you might expect Lille town has some very good eating, you can get about on the driverless metro but make sure that you buy a ticket..... there are spot checks! A bus runs about once an hour from the airport to the Eurostar station and the metro is a short walk away in the main railway station. I won't list the good restauants as it would take about three pages
but for local cooking there is a place by the railway station that brews its own beer that is worth a looking at.

LILLE

OK, so finally Girlfriend and I did the planned trip from May 2011.

Superb and easy flight from Biggin Hill - almost a straight line and took one hour each way. ATC at Lille excellent and very welcoming, landed inbetween two airliners and whilst on close in downwind had another one take off and turn south over us. Landing fee for my Vans RV6 at 726kg was Euro 5.77, handling Euro 8.50 and Terminal transfer Euro 20.00. The transfer was absolutely great - Lady arrived in nice airconditioned car drove us to terminal, escorted us to the front of the immigration queue that had a whole load of passengers from an Air Algeria flight!!
Took us through to the information desk and showed us to the bus(Navette) to town Euro 9 each. The temp was 35C, so I must say the apron transfer was worth every Euro.
So glad we went to Lille as it was very interesting and beautiful old flemish
building, great food and stayed in the Ibis Opera that is very central and only Euro 90 at the weekends, plus you can cancel up to 6pm on the day if you get weathered in before take off from UK. I am glad I did not go to the usual L2K as the weather was poor and I heard a lot of screaming on the radio, due to the amount trying to get in with the low clouds.
