Calm down and move along, there's nothing to see here...

O...K...

So let's bring the thread back to solos....

Congrats Loumate, I know what a great feeling and achievement it is as I've just got back from doing my first solo today. As you know I've now got to tell anyone and everyone for the next couple of days so here I am

It was great weather for it at Headcorn - once the leading edge on the C150 was defrosted anyway! Not a bump at any stage and very good vis in cloudless skies. Did a couple of circuits, EFATO, Glide Approach etc with instructor on board then off on my own. I did forget Carb Heat cold ready for G/A at 2-300' a couple of times in the previous approaches but managed to remember on the solo. Having done some rather good landings if I say so myself during the practices (well there was just a tame headwind!), on the solo it was more of a "fly it on" than "stall it on". I think it was because I over-compensated for not wanting to balloon it with one less onbaord, but still main gear first so all round ok.

Like previous posters have said it all goes so very, very quickly. It's a great feeling to have done it and I enjoyed it a lot but in some way's it's as much of a relief at the mo to have "got it over with", meaning I can enjoy the flying as opposed to being funnelled into the "when am I going solo" thinking that can't be helped as it approached.

I don't think I'll get into the "how many hours?" debate if you don't mind, but if you want to know PM me!

It's now official - I'm a (student) pilot, me !!!

Congrats...

Kolossi - congratulations to you - it's a great feeling, keep it up and I hope the rest of your training progresses well.

An update from me, since my solo, I've done a bunch of solo circuits, a variety of solo rejoins and yesterday, a 1 hour solo flight without a landing. Early next week, the plan is for me to fly from Shoreham to Lydd to land and then return (I did it with my instructor yesterday). After that, I'm back to work so it's all going to slow down for a while

Thanks Loumate,

Did you get to Lydd before the weather broke?

If you're flying to Headcorn (or even if it's an alternate and the weather's looking shaky), drop me a pm!

Kolossi

Kolossi many cangratulations on your first solo. If you were flying Lima X-ray then you and I both had our first solos in the same aircraft. Having recently completed my PPL at Headcorn I cannot wait to get back to flying over that area. Keep at it, it's all worth it in the end!

Thanks Morris542.

I generally fly India-Echo, the C150 Aerobat. My instructor and I prefer it because it has plenty of power. I've been told I'm obliged to have a go on the sluggish Lima X-Ray though (booked for 2 weeks time!) as some form of initiation/penance and to see how long it takes me to get it climbing in a full-flap go-around

Same as for loumate (or anyone else for that matter!) feel free to pm me if you'll be around Headcorn and we'll see if we can meet up.

Hi Kolossi - sadly, the weather went all Pete Tong before I could do the solo land at Lydd so instead, I departed Shoreham with an overhead at Ashford, Lydd and then back to Shoreham - the white Kent countryside looked great. I''m booked to do the solo Shoreham Lydd and return for this Saturday....but I can't see that happening given the weather...I'll bear you in mind if I'm ever heading over to Headcorn...Lou
