I'm probably jumping the gun ever so slightly here, but... I'm in the process of re-gaining my PPL after a break of a few years, and ultimately want to get myself onto taildraggers. Being an ex Air Cadet (which was more years ago than I really want to think about), I've got a very soft spot for the dear old Chippie.
Does anyone know of any flying clubs or groups which operate one in East Anglia / East Midlands, and also whether they would do tail wheel conversions for newly-qualified PPL's?
Any help or advice gratefully recieved...

BeauMan,
As another ex air cadet Chipmunk fan in the area I have looked but not found one for training or solo hire, alas. I gather that there used to be one available at Old Buckenham, but that it had to go due to under-utilisation. There is a share in a Chippy for sale at Seething, but that's obviously a much bigger commitment.
However... once you have your PPL, there are other nice taildragger experiences around. As well as the Cambridge Flying Group's Tiger Moths I have heard good things about the quality of the taildragger conversion available on the Cub at Bourne, which could be a good location for you. I might be looking in there myself once the CAA sends my licence (application went in this week!)

Thanks for the advice guys.
Lowtimer - Yes, Bourn's quite close to where I am, although I'm planning to complete my PPL at Gransden for the time being. They've got very good rates for their Cherokees and C150. Once I've re-qualified I'll probably stay with them as I flew there when I qualified the first time.
Back on the subject of Chipmunks, I must confess the one I really have got my eye on is WB569, currently sitting in hangar 2 north at Duxford - had my first ever flight in that one as a 13 year old cadet, and so I was overjoyed to see that she's still flying today. Now just got to pick the right six numbers tomorrow night and make her owner an offer he can't refuse...

The Chipmunk Club published a short list of places where you could train on or hire a Chipmunk in their April 2001 Newsletter.
It said the information was correct at January 2001.
Two in Lincolnshire were mentioned, which are probably closest to you, they were....
Fenland Aero Club 01406 540461, and
Wickenby Aero Club 01673 885345.
Geographicaly, the other places mentioned were....
Channel Islands....Jersey Aero Club
Bucks...Wycombe..BA Flying Club
Devon...Eaglescott..Devon Airsports
London...Elstree...John Schooling
Merseyside...Liverpool...Liverpool Flying Club
Wales...Hawarden...Chester Flying Club.
Comed at Blackpool also mentioned but I think they're no longer operating?

Thanks for the info, Warped Factor. Fenland's probably the closest of that lot. I've also sent The Chipmunk Club a mail asking them about membership - didn't know they even existed, so thanks for that!
