Flight bags

My bag has got lighter since my first post. Permission to speak Captain Mainwaring: of the five posts above your "last five posts" post, three were past-posts posted in the past (ie over a year ago) but posthumously moderated post haste, possibly as a pastime. Unless perhaps posts posted by pests have been cut and pasted ex post facto?. .. .PS: Thread Relevancy Compliance Statement: my flight bag contains a variety of old tat, but definitely no mystery underwear.

FNG - there were a bunch of now-deceased posts about how I was too stupid to use a Whizz-wheel. That's what BRL was talking about.. .. .Strangest thing i've found in my flight bag are nappies and a chewed Teletubby head (not sure what happened to the rest of La-La)... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Roll Eyes]" src="rolleyes.gif" /> Apart from that it's the normal junk. <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

At the risk of moving off-topic (only kidding Big Red, me old mukkah <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> ), what carriers are people using as their flight bags?. .. .Best one I found and now use is a record bag - if it's got room for vinyl, it's got room for charts etc. - with a shedload of pockets for DJ's bits and pieces (they also carry headsets of a sort). It even came with a torch in an internal pocket.. .. .Back on-topic - mine contains:. .. .Transceiver and headset adaptor kit. .1:500k Chart. .Pooleys Guide. .Whizz Wheel. .Chart Pens. .Chart Ruler & Protractor. .Couple of biros (probably leaking). .Pencil with 10nm markings cut into it. .Calculator. .Log Book. .C152 checklist. .Fuel tester. .Pad of paper. .Copy of some magazine for reading when waiting for late bookings at club. .Whatever Trevor Thom I'm revising (Aero Tech at the mo'). .Kingsize Whole Nut bar (that's a lie - one of those never lasts long enough to need putting in a bag).

As i am new at moderating, its all a big learning curve for me and i am taking it all in my stride now. . .I agree with what you say about it being a good, friendly forum and i know you lot are not too extreme in what/how you say things so i am glad that i havn't been thrown in at the deep-end and have been given such a good forum to look after.. .Of course, as with anything new, there will be quite a few mis-calls regarding deleting threads and so on. This, as i say is part of the learning curve as i mentioned earlier and i hope you will all be kind to me if i do upset/annoy you... <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" /> . .. .So, in my flight bag (a transair one) is........ <img border="0" title="" alt="[Smile]" src="smile.gif" />

At work in the UK my flight bag is my headset bag. Enough room for my licence, spare specs., fuel tester, torch, some pencils/pens, a sick bag or two & spare PTT switch. Separate to that I have an A5 size aluminium clipboard.. .. .Don't need anything else since the a/c have their own charts etc.. .. .In Oz it was a bit different since generally you're expected to supply your own charts etc. My flight bag is an old yellow canvas satchel. It fits all the charts for Oz including approach plates plus the stuff mentioned earlier.. .. .Damn sight more convenient than those large pilot cases that seem to be the rage. I can sling it over my shoulder to carry it & it fits just in front of my seat when in use.

Strange, how at the start, people stare jealously at the big black flight bags ( myself included ) and hope that one day they too will need such a piece of kit to hold all their precious flying bits. . .. .As time goes on, kit gets bigger, and as if by magic, one day you find yourself swaggering into the club, a new owner of said shiny leather necessity. . .. .When it gets to around the 30lb mark niggling little doubts about its true need arise - especially regarding some of its occupants. . .. .Firstly the airway manual is not strictly needed at all times.. .We do have two radios in the plane anyway - out goes the handheld.. .Never was going to wear those gloves.. .Could eat the butties now.. .Not going to Ireland, Scotland or France. 3 charts later and things are looking lighter.. .Headsets can stay in the back.. .Ditto GPS.. .Camera - got thousands of photo's of the sky ( and I really have - my friends and family LOVE to look at them all - especially as I now have a laptop to aid such visual treats <img border="0" title="" alt="[Big Grin]" src="biggrin.gif" /> - 'and this is one of the sky over Lancaster, and this is of the sky ..... ). .Whiz wheel and numerous pens become - biro. marker. fingers. head.. .Torches - Don't fly at night.. .. .Before you know it your back to a kneeboard, a chart, a pen and ...... that’s it.. .. .What goes around ...... .. .LF <img border="0" title="" alt="[Wink]" src="wink.gif" /> . .. .ps - having said that went to Newcastle the other day for an overnighter, what with my overnight bag, laptop bag and big shiny pilot bag, all the above went straight outta the window <img border="0" title="" alt="[Razz]" src="tongue.gif" />

Flight Bag

I have got one of those horrible sythetic flight bags, but I tend to use my Samsonite rucksack which is quite big, with lots of pockets to put stuff in. When I use my real flight bag, due to its lack of pockets/divisions, everything just gets chucked in and by the time I have found that one permanent marker that works my flying slot is over.

And thats about it. Apart from the tag that was attached to the bag when I first bought it that I have never thrown away.
