Got bitten when i was 2, and dreamed untill my 13th b'day when my parents bought me a trial lesson. A trial lesson again on my 14th and logged my first .8 in a warrior. On my 15th birthday my dad handed me a check and the price said PPL, i then started soon after trying to get an hour in every week. Started on a Katana, hated the little thing so swapped to a 152.
16th b'day and 27 flying hour latter, i solo'ed, got on the local T.V with a lovely landing, started flying v.regularly then and left for barbados 3 weeks ago, got a great jumpseat in a 767-300 and started to commence a bit of training in a 172 out there. Had great fun and got another jumpseat on the way back.
Am now gonna go ring my flying school and book a lesson as i need to prepare for my solo XC, and am also currently tossing between Navy flying and Civil, was so sure bout Navy when i left, but those jumpseats have a habit of changing my mind.
Have fun and keep flying

Well, I'm a real newbie compared to you lot, but here goes:
I first flew in a Traumahawk on my 22nd birthday. I bought the lesson myself as the subtle hints to various relatives didn't work.
I'm now 23 and started lessons proper a few months ago in a C152. I did my first solo last week after 9hr 20min! What an experience!
The flying bug probably came from Dad, who doesn't fly but is really interested in the whole scene. ...oh, and watching Top Gun at a young, impressionable age...
I'm currently doing a postgrad course in biology, but am hoping to combine that with aviation when I have to get into the real world and choose a career. Any suggestions gratefully recieved!

737 it's nice to hear from a jet driver who enjoys the freedoms of private flying.
SKYYACHT, I also started as a spotty faced youth in ATC Chippies, how many other wrinklies out there started this way.
I suppose I never stood a chance, dad was WW2 RAF and my older brother was into planes so lots of flying talk. Joined the cadets and had a few flying lessons before getting married. Driving away from the church new wife asks how much money I had. A quid was the reply. She said no, not on you, how much total? A quid was the reply. She was deeply unimpressed for some reason! A divorce 9 years later allowed me to buy an Aerobat which soaked up all my money (new radios, nav aids, top overhaul, strip and paint) until some fool (not me) forgot to tie it down properly and it was written off in a gale. Insurance paid for my lovely little cub which I still have and cherish. There is nothing nicer than puttering along at 501' on a summer's evening with the window open waving to people below.

I have been interested in planes since Viscounts Vanguards and Argosies,(that old), and living under 09L for LHR. Just got my CAA extension PPL after 2yrs, after 85 hrs at Blackbushe, now considering the share group at EF, any comments on this sharegroup?

About time they opened a forum for real pilots!
Barton PPL (G-PLAN); Barton Firecrew; trainee Barton FISO. (What a giveaway - I might as well start using my real name!)
Hi to OTB. If you're around on Saturday evening come on over and say hello to the firecrew.
Pooley's fly-in at Welshpool this Sunday. See some of you there, weather permitting?
Steve.

SWITCHES ON CONTACT. All good stuff wot wot.No thats not the real me,sounds good though doesn`t.Learnt to glide with Army.No not Glider Pilot regiment not that old. Loved it leaving the army looking for civvy club OH DEAR! sorry guys but try getting up before midday.Got talked into trial lesson that was in 1970,told mother its only £5.oo an hour to pacify her.It was realy £10.00 so when every so often she took pitty on her struggling son and gave me £5.00 I knew I had made a mistake in getting into aviation.Spent next ten years scrimping the odd hour like most of us then no work so lets blow some dosh go Stateside build hours then do A.F.I. course. All worked well enough been flying ever since. lots of great people a few p---s. You can always tell.I think the best guy I ever flew with was Hector Taylor East Mids/ Nottingham etc. His first instructing job was 1932 on Hawker Hind varients it was such a privelage.Anyway where I live in Suffolk the the NIMBYs and local authoritys have closed all licensed fields so no more instructing its back to scrounging.ANYONE WANT A 47 YEAR OLD CPL WITH 10,000 HOURS ON ANYTHING FROM STEARMANS TO DORNIER 228s BYE.

Congrats FlyingV.Well done. Great feeling isn't it? I started my flying back in 1984 in Shannon with Westair's predecessor. Moved to the continent in '87 and did very little flying between that and 1991 (too much blasted red tape). Lost my medical in 94 which put a serious stop to my gallop. Having recovered from neurosurgery (twice) and jumped through the required hoops I regained my Irish and FAA medicals last autumn. Flew yesterday with some of the neighbours and hit Canada next week for a bit of aviating 'round the Rockies. It's great to be back in the left seat.

I sent a mail to fallen eagle about the smilies, reproduced below, unfortunately the forum is interpreting Gash Handlin's examples as legitimate smilies, that is why it isn't too clear what he's trying to say, hopefully I've edited this correctly.
Maybe we ought to set up a separate thread for solo's and PPL qualifications, otherwise this one is going to get very congested with announcements and congrats ! (Too shy) Mind you I wanted to shout it from the roof tops etc..

Thanks for that PA 28. I just clicked on "Smilies Legend" and now I see what you mean.
I understand about shouting from the rooftops.
I spent the whole evening after passing my rotary GFT sending ecstatic e-mails to everyone I could think of.
. This despite having got my fixed wing licence a couple of years before, so you'd think the novelty might have worn off wouldn't you? Just as well I hadn't discovered PPRuNe smilies then maybe
Right, let's see how that lot comes out, and if it works I promise to be a little more restrained with them in future.
Ah, just discovered I have to be more restrained now and delete some smilies if I want to send this - PPRuNe won't let me send a message with more than eight images. I bet not a lot of you knew that.
