PPRuNe fly-in - South-East England - Spring 2002

From the responses on AerBabe's thread about what to do with a PPL, it seems that there's a fair amount of interest in a PPRuNe fly-in, so I'm going to go ahead and arrange one!

I can't really do much for the next couple of weeks, as I'm out of the country, and don't have any UK charts/airport guides/etc with me. So, in the meantime, I'm open to any suggestions for where you guys would like to meet in south-east England.

As for the date, I think some time in April or May will give us time to arrange it. The weather is often better in May, but let me know when you're availble or which weekends are definitely a no-no, and I'll go with the majority.

Don't be afraid to sign up if you don't have your PPL yet, or if you don't have a plane... I'll make sure I get details of spare seats, and we'll do whatever we can to get you a ride from your local airport!

bcfc, Evo7, AerBabe, Hersham Boy, Who Has Control?, DOC.400 and SlipSlider are already in, and possibly Whirlybird (you up for it even if it's not Duxford, whirly?) and LowNSlow (do the dates suit you?) - so keep those names coming!

Theres always one awkward beggar isn't there, and today its me. It is highly unlikely that I would able to hire a club aircraft all day at the weekend. So I may be after a spare seat. I am house-trained, know which end of the aircraft points forward, can handle RT and enjoy map-reading. And am willing to PAY!

Last weekend in May & first in June are no-noes for me.

May be up for it, but would need to check once you had a date. Not TOO far south please, my Luton has a 1.5 hr endurance at 60 kts. Well, s'pose i can always stop by a garage and tank up....

Yes, probably. But I'm going hour building in LA (a good excuse for a flying holiday) in April; dates not fixed yet, but probably late April to early May. So how about June - longer days too. and don't make it too far south, or it's a long trip for those of us from north of Watford Gap.

How about Popham, long operating hours, cheap landing fees, long runways, last years Flyer airfield of the year, and a reasonable sausage sandwich.

If we decide on Popham, as that's just a short hop from White Waltham, I wouldn't mind detouring to pick someone up on the way, or I could take someone from WW and we could go the scenic route eg via the White Horse or whatever. One spare seat in Cap 10 available. Ability to map read whilst inverted an advantage but not esssential.

Other poss venues: Old Sarum? Compton Abbas? Don't mind really.

Popham sounds good to me - i'd also happily come over to WW for lift, FNG (assuming you have more than 2 seats?!) - I don't have much of an impact on T/O Weight <img src="smile.gif" border="0">

Well, Hersh, there are only 2 seats in zer liddell Frairrrnch aereoplane, and PPrune Dispatcher has bagsied one of them. Apparently I am supposed to sit in the other one and make like I know how to fly the thing. If you really are a boy, you could perhaps sit on someone's lap, but flying around with a small boy on our laps could get us into trouble, and not just with the CAA....

If you can get to Popham somehow, however, you would be welcome to come up for a local jolly whilst PPrune Dispatcher is in the canteen receiving intensive stress counselling after my landing.

I have 2 suggestions:. .1. Rochester - friendly airfield, lots of nearby interesting aerial landmarks, reasonable café. Problem is its my home field, so I would not get to fly in ! Or

2. whatever South East airfield is offering free landings in that month's Flyer.

I suspect since it's a short hop for me I'll bring my 2-seat flexwing. I still owe Whirly a trip, and if it's Popham I'm a member so can give unlimited jollies without incurring any landing fees.

Sounds a good idea to me, hopfully I can persuade my instructor that a navx to this place will be a good idea. If not I will have to drive if its not too far.
