Unhappy Airfields under Threat

Just a quick note to advise of a new campaign group; "Action for Airfields", dedicated to raising mass, grass roots level support for airfields under threat. You can learn about the campaign at its web site at http://www.airfields.org.uk

Please take a look and register yourself in the supporters network. It doesn't cost to join and it allows us to keep you up to date with airfield news and more importantly to alert you directly an airfield is threatened and needs support.

Regards
A4A

I cannot urge you all strongly enough to support a4a the nimbys will stop at nothing to shut us down ,last month i saw a number of them lie in court during the instructor EFATO case.
The "evidence" put befor the court had nothing to do with low flying and a lot to do with trying to get the flying stopped.

DO NOTHING AND YOU WILL NOT BE ABLE TO FLY.

i cant put it more clearly than that.

Whilst I agree entirely with A&C, I can't help feeling that A4A (I know many of the activists and they are all good people) should work with AOPA and GASCO to achieve their purpose. It seems to me that AOPA/GASCO need support rather than another emerging body trying to fight the same fight. After all they do have experts on board and know the political realities and how to present their case to those who matter.

Before I get flamed by all and sundry saying how expensive AOPA are and how you get nothing for your money, if more of us were members and *actively* supported them they might have the resources to be more effective.

Just my 2pence worth...

A4A has no intention of trying to do the work that, for example the GAAC (is that who was meant, rather than GASCO?) already do so well. We are an independant group of pilots all with day jobs and as is rightly pointed out other organisations are far better placed to take on the work of representing the interests of airfields where it matters. What these organisations do not currently enjoy is mass support from the rank and file in the aviation community. It is this issue which A4A is trying to tackle, and if you look at our web site you will see that the campaign is all about raising mass, grass roots level support.

In order to do this for themselves, the people at Clutton Hill had to do a lot of work. Each member of the club was given a target of 100 letters of support, and one guy sent out some 7000 e-mails. The next time a few local residents seek the closure of an airfield, or the local authority wants to plough up the runways, we want to be able to get the whole aviation community behind the efforts of the airfield, the GAAC, AOPA, PFA, and anyone else who is working to preserve these facilities. That's what the supporters network is all about, and hopefully the information available on our web site will make the act of registering support a whole lot easier.

Ambitious perhaps, but something needs to be done...

Yes, of course, I did mean GAAC. For the sake of clarity I don't disagree with the aims of A4A, on the contrary, I have distributed copies of the leaflet from day 1 and, as you say, if something isn't done we shall have nowhere to fly from. I just feel that joining together might make for a more effective effort.
