Lottery Twins and Other Playthings

I was doing the "When I win the lottery" daydream the other day and decided, WHEN I win, I would like a nice Twin for touring with the family and some kind of Warbird/Aerobatic plaything for thrasing about in the sky. Then I would get a helicopter PPL (Just for fun)
First Question What is the biggest/Best and most practical twin on a PPL?
What Would you do?... I"m sure you've had the same dream

The two choices have to be:-
(1) Late model Beaufighter, preferably with the anti-shipping cannon for clearing dawdling C150s out of the circuit.
(2) Mk IX Spittie with two-stage supercharger and the immediate-postwar "Laddie Lucas" wing-mod (This involves taking the guns out and replacing them with several bottles of champagne).
Seriously though, instead of a twin, why not get one of those super-mega fast singles with big long noses that you see parked around places (Rockwell Commander or something). What's the point of assymetric thrust?

When I was youmger the answer "Spitfire" would have been the only one you would have got from me. Now, well, somthing with leather seats, a good auto-pilot, room for the family, good performance. I think a kingair 200 would do me fine for a couple of years until I felt ready to move on to the Citation.
As for fun, a tiger moth or Stampe

Choose Stampe ahead of Tiger, because at least with two sets of ailerons instead of the Tiger's one you have some chance of actually turning in the direction you are banking (by no means a foregone conclusion in a Tiger). If money is no object, however, and you want something that you can get more hours in than, say a P-51 or Spit, then a Yak 11 looks pretty fab for around the 100K mark. I watched Mark Jeffries beating the **** out of RFC Bourn in one of these a few months ago. Looks great, sounds great, and is said to have a wondrous power to weight ratio and real WW2 fighter handling characteristics. If you break it, you can get another one, whereas if you break your Spifire, you will blub a lot and all the anoraks (me included) will hate you for writing off one of the wonder machines.

A Beech 18 would make me happy. Taildragger twin with round engines, lovely. A snip at £80k. For playtime a Nanchang CJ6(Chinese deveopment of the Yak-52 with proper putaway wheels). Finally, for sunny Sundays a Bucker Jungmeister. All those round engines, what a dream. Rushes off to check lottery ticket and pour another glass of wine in anticipation

It's got to be a Spitfire, a Mk9, that would come out on special occasions. But for everyday aviating and an ability to take a passenger I'd have my *own* Yak 52. And a Yak 50 (Mark Hanna's all time favourite, I beleive) because with the same motor as the 52 but only 1 seat they must go extremely well. And that single cockpit just on the wing trailing edge must be great for aeros.

Okay guys... found the ultimate lottery plane...The Grob Egrett (see this month's Pilot)
Blow the lot on this if only for the crack of calling that prickly lot at Stansted...
"Grob overhead Old Buckenham Flight Level 500, requesting straight in approach"

I’ve been thinking about this again, I really really would like a Spitfire the only trouble is I don’t want to fly it around the TMA at 2400’ in an inversion layer.
I want to jump into it after the fitter has warmed the engine, and with my mates go roaring off into the dawn sky. I would be wearing one of those cool leather helmets with the goggles atop my Forehead. I would also have a Mae-West, a parachute, and Irvine boots. We would be vectored to somewhere over Tunbridge Wells at Angels 18 and would be having our eyes skinned for enemy A/C.
“Tallyho” would shout the S/L and we would dive into the melee below.
After landing from the last sortie, we would jump into my ageing jalopy and head of to the White Horse in Brasted where I would chalk my name on the blackboard.
On days off we would go up to London and I would have my top button undone…….
I think I had better stop there, actually all of the above is why I started flying in the first place. As I get older I realise that the horror of War is so unlike the romance I have described above, but I guess I am still a bit of a romantic at heart.
