You could try chapter 14 (Nav) of this online book "See How it Flies"
http://www.monmouth.com/~jsd/how/htm/title.html

You would need to spend a long timne online or do a lengthy download or print run to read the whole work. On flight theory, maybe better to read Kermode's classic (and short) book "Flight Without Formulae"
