Looks like a cracking job, didn't realise there was such a hump as image 2 shows, unless the camera angle exacerbates it. look forward to a visit hopefully over the Christmas hol's

Trev, I would like to personally thank you for the time and effort you have put in to making a record of the runway resurfacing. The quality of these photos is excellent and they give a progressive account of the runway upgrade, from start to finish. The latter photos of the club house are so good I think they could be used as part of the next leaflet advertising campaign, but maybe one when the place is FULL might give a good impression. Kindest regards Ray.

Cheers Ray & No problem, i am trying to up the clubs Profile to get more members & if this helps then great.
I am always out & about with my camera when not flying so if there is anything you want photo's of to help build the clubs profile then give me a shout.
Would like to get photo's of the runway from approach views sometime but not on one of my lessons!!
Will be down in a bit to photograph the finished job.
Cheers Trev

Ladies & Gentlemen.
This is the last instalment from the Sandtoft Runway Resurfacing.
I hope you all have found this interesting & will visit Sandtoft & leave your own wheel marks on the runway.
These were taken this morning, Saturday 05/12/09, as the Runway is still shut while the finishing touches are done & will be hopefully open tomorrow as I myself have a lesson booked at 10.00am.
Thank you all for the comments & i hope you liked all the updates.

Sorry but just had my lesson cancelled for tomorrow as the runway has to be inspected by the CAA & earliest I have been told it might reopen is Thursday 10/12/09 now so no flying till then.
Sucks but hey never mind. Not the clubs fault.
Cheers Trev.

Even then, presumably it could still open unlicensed i.e. no flight training?

Surely it could be used as unlicensed until the CAA get off their backside and inspect? I was planning to head over for a fry-up in the morning. Oh well
Either way, looks like a nice job

I'm full of admiration for everyone involved What a fantastic advert for this country's can do - get on with it attitude. I feel that a tad humble that in this bleak period there are still people willing to take a chance put their money up and achieve the impossible.
You all deserve a medal, a hug and financial sucess
But, ( and you know there's always a but) Sandtoft is a licensed aerodrome, so that licence is in force 24/7 365. Ops hours are published and I think there's a NOTAM running at present due to the resurfacing project effectively closing the runway.
Frustrating as it is, I'd suggest putting pressure on the person in charge to let the runway be used in advance of the CAA confirming it meets regulatory requirements, would not be wise.
I'm sure they understand that, as the accountable person, there is a huge risk in allowing use of the runway now. Even if the flight is private and doesn't require a licensed runway, even if ones insurance covers flights from non-licensed strips, just imagine the consequences of an incident
A few days lost now will be nought compared to the potential loss should the Law of Sod apply before the Campaign arrives and Delmontes the work.
Patience is a virtue.

Have all the aircraft parking areas been reserviced as well. Also do they have lights installed for night flying?
Very nice photos by the way thanks for keeping us informed.

Just realised that for those of you who have never visited Sandtoft will not have seen what the Runway used to look like before the resurface so have dug out one of my summer photo's for you to see.
Great isn't it???

Great work and very informative, I am pleased to see G-BAEO still in action since I last flew her in 1979. Where have 30 years gone? Lovely aircraft as I recall. I may have to pop along and have another go in the spring of 2010.
Happy (smooth) landings to all at Sandtoft

I'm really hoping that it's going to be signed off soon; because I would like to complete the night-rating at Sandtoft rather than elsewhere.
What are the odds that the night qualification course will be skipped this year?

Why would they skip the night qualification course? It won't start getting light again for several months... a couple of days won't make any difference.
