I enjoyed putting those Sandtoft Flyers together and I am now on with the next one as we speak, to update everyone of the changes. I'm glad they were well received and don't forget I would be delighted to include any articles from members.... as long as they have a connection with flying ! As a good will gesture I will be providing one glass of FREE (yes FREE) Sandtoft House Wine for anyone who buys the curry tonight. Enjoy. Ray
I went to the Curry Night last night & met the new Director of 52nd Aviation Shaun Collins.
Welcome to 52nd Street!
He had a fair few positive idea's on what he wants to do to improve things at Sandtoft & laid himself open to questions.
Shaun mentioned that he wanted to open an on-line forum where members can discuss or criticise how the club is run to help improve everything to do with aviation at Sandtoft & also open an on-line booking system which would require a deposit to book an aircraft so if you book & don't show to fly you loose your deposit, obviously if the weather doesn't play right on the day you won't loose the deposit although you can still book via the office if you so desire. These were just idea's he mentioned last night while i was talking to him.
Ray Price has been taking aircraft across to Sherburn all week & getting faults sorted, in fact I flew over there with him yesterday in the C172 to pick up a C152 to fetch back & he stayed to have a few faults sorted on the C172.
He wants to try to reduce flying fees a bit to encourage more use of aircraft but as he said the aircraft have to be flying a lot more than they are now to exploit this.
Also Ray & Shaun want more social nights & plan a Bonfire party.
I hope more members support this as I felt there were not as many there last night as I have seen flying especially Students, the helicopter guys didn't show up & things here effect them as much as anyone, there were a few of the microlight guys but again not the usual guys I see at the weekends.Granted some may be away on business or on holiday, but I did see a few of the usual people there Friday afternoon flying, but they didn't show up in the evening.
Thanks Ray for the Free wine, i tried some & enjoyed it................
Cheers Trev

Ah, sorry to hear this news about Sheffield, and Steve in particular. He was the examiner for my PPL, and took me out on some fun IMC training in rather choppy weather
I did my solo at Sandtoft and have fond memories of the place.
Best of luck to everyone with the new endeavour.

I couldn't make it on Friday night but thanks for the reports. I live in Sheffield and it's a 45 minute drive for me so probably wouldn't go to many social events.
Anyway there seem to be some good ideas, hope things go well from here.

I'm also sorry to hear of the demise of SCFS, running any business just now must be very difficult.
My thanks to Shawn and Ray for taking the baton and keeping aircraft available for hire at Sandtoft, and my sincere best wishes for the future of the new business. Also, best wishes to the Airfield Manager in her new post.
The forum idea would be one good way of spreading the word about Sandtoft events, as would a webpage that was updated regularly or even e-mail. Too often, in the past, have social and flying events been kept secret or restricted to those who happened to pass the notice board. I look forward to supporting future events.

Thought this would be NOTAMed but doesn't seem to be yet.
The Sandtoft runway is being resurfaced and will be closed 23/11/09 - 4/12/09.
Should be a lot less bumpy then

Great photos as usual Trev. Looks like they're doing a proper job on the runway.
I imagine this weather is holding things up at the moment, but do we have an official re-opening day ?
