PPL Training

Hi all,

I'm planning on starting logging my PPL hours when i'm 15, then doing my solo at 16 and test at 17.I want to get the information now, because i need to save some money. Can anyone help me on this, or links to sites or what type of price i'm looking at. I'm from Ireland, put i will travel abroad to get a good deal for what i'm getting. Can anyone give me information on Flight Schools.

Or even good deals like doing me PPL in a few weeks.Put i have to be 17 do do this, because i have to do a test and i have to be 17 is this correct?

I want to start as soon as possable!

thanks
Bates

You are correct with the ages, 16 for solo and 17 for issue of the licence. If you do start at the age of 15, it would probably be better to start closer to your 16th birthday, as if you fly regularly, it may not take that long before you are ready for your first solo. There are options out there to complete a PPL in a few weeks, but there are no guarantees that you will actually be able to complete it in this time (the weather being a major factor in many cases), also if you do try to complete an intensive course it is worth considering the ground school exams, and have them completed before you start....If you are interested, there is no reason why you can’t start some reading now!

With regards to different schools and prices, a simple web search will act as a good starting point. There have also been many threads on this website surrounding flying schools and people’s experiences, so the search function is another good place to start.

Relax... all good things come to those who wait and if your doing a PPL expect to spend more than 'a few weeks' in obtaining your Licence. Im going to briefly outline what I think is relevant to you as this has been covered many, many times before. There is no minimum to which you can start flying which is good because from your last post you never specified how old you actually are... for the purpose of this reply I shall assume you are 14 as you are not yet 15. However, any flights/hours logged before your fourteenth birthday will not qualify as experience for the purpose of any licence or rating. You have to be 16 before you can solo and 17 before you can be issued with any type of Licence. In theory, you can complete your PPL before your 17th Birthday i.e. ground exams and skills test but you will not be issued with, or be able to, exercise any privileges afforded to a PPL holder until you are 17.
The above of course open to correction from fellow 'prooners'.
Ref Flying in Ireland - There are two options you can here; either

a) Research it yourself online,
b) provide clear information in your post to what exactly you plan to do...

i.e. "I'm from Ireland, put i will travel abroad to get a good deal for what i'm getting. Can anyone give me information on Flight Schools."

You will travel abroad? I suggest looking into Training in FL if cost is your main concern - though im not entirely sure this is what you meant?

Or even good deals like doing me PPL in a few weeks.
I believe they do this in Waterford visit JAA Pilot Flight Training - Pilot Training College Ireland - professional pilot courses honours BSc degree level - shoot them an email requesting information on standalone PPL courses offered.

You should also advise how far 'abroad' is. Should we recommend flying schools in Northern Ireland or Austrailia? Will you be staying on at school with a view to entering higher education?

Sorry not much help, but not a big pile of information to go on. If it helps answer your question I fly out of EGAB in a C152 for aprox £130/hour.

Search this forum (Search entire posts) for the keyword LASORS.

You'll find lots of useful threads that you should read.

If you can wade through LASORS it tells you pretty much all you need to know about what's involved in getting a PPL and the requirements. It may be daunting, but so is Air Law!!

You are in Ireland, but for a JAA PPL (does that still exist now?) the syllabus and requirements will be similar wherever you do it (in JAA-land).

RYAN5252,

I will travel abroad Ryan, like to America, England if I have to.But I wont travel to Australia or realy far from Ireland.

Do any of you know can i do my PPL in a few weeks, like i know a few schools in Florida that do the PPL in a few weeks, I dont think I can do my PPL in a few weeks because you have to be 17 to do the tests. So do you have to be 17 do the PPL in a few weeks???????

Thanks Fly-by-wife for the Link.
