Minor bump on final approach

A report from the NTSB. A mid-air collision (or so it seems) with no injuries!

Incident occurred Saturday, February 07, 2009 in Fairmont, NE
Aircraft: CESSNA 150, registration: N5757G
Injuries: 1 Uninjured.
This is preliminary information, subject to change, and may contain errors. Any errors in this report will be corrected when the final report has been completed.

On February 7, 2009, at 1400 central standard time, a Piper 28-18, N55502, that was being operated by an individual under provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91 collided with a Cessna 150K, N5757G, that was being operated by an individual under provisions of 14 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 91, when both airplanes were on final approach to landing at Fairmont State Airfield (FMZ), Fairmont, Nebraska.

Day visual meteorological conditions prevailed. A flight plan had not been filed for N55502 on the flight from Hebron, Nebraska, and a flight plan had not been filed for N5757G on the flight from Crete, Nebraska. Both airplanes were making their first approach and landing at the FMZ airport.

There were no injuries to the two pilots, who were the only persons onboard. Examination of both airplanes by two Federal Aviation Administration inspectors revealed that N55502 exhibited minor damage to the left tire and wheel while N5757G exhibited minor damage to both propeller tips and minor damage to the top surface of the right wing,

At 1354 CST, the automated weather observing system at the Lincoln Airport (KLNC) Lincoln, Nebraska, located 40 miles northeast from the site of the accident, reported wind from 320 degrees at 7 knots, 10 miles visibility, sky condition clear, temperature 59 degrees, dew point 30 degrees, and an altimeter setting of 30.06 inches of Mercury.
