Duxford Christmas Dinner Bonus Day 13th December 2008
The last Duxford Bonus Day of 2008 is for all aircraft. Vist Duxford on Saturday 13th December for a great discount day out -- including a discount Christmas Dinner in one of the airfield's restaurant/cafes.
Duxford is home to the Imperial War Museum and must be the premier destination for GA pilots in Europe. Most weekends through the flying season, although there are no guarantees, you are quite likely to see warbirds flying – Spitfire, Hurricane, B17, Catalina and other rare types are based at Duxford. I can't promise warbird flying in the midle of December, but you will see them in the hangars.
The Bonus days offer great discounted prices: On 13th December, all aircraft and their pilots and passengers will enjoy half-price landing fees and much reduced museum admission. Single or twin can land for £7; museum entry is £7 for most adults and children come in free, and there will be some discount on the turkey.
On Bonus days only, the Briefing Room and balcony on the first floor of the historic Control Tower is freely available for Bonus pilots and their passengers. The £22+ million ‘AirSpace’ project is now fully open – really a ‘must-see.’
There will be a program of Bonus Days in 2009, including the starter to the season: the Duxford Bonus Safety Day in April.
As well as Bonus Days, Duxford welcomes FLY-INs. Any group of pilots planning to visit Duxford can arrange special prices in advance, subject to a minimum of about 6 aircraft (for discounted landing fees) and/or 20 people (for discounted museum admission as well). This does not apply to event days, and it must be pre-arranged in writing with the airfield manager, Frank Marson.
Further information about the Bonus Days and information for fly-in visitors can be found on the web site IWM Duxford - Europe's premier aviation museum
The airfield team will be delighted to hear from forumites (call for PPR and briefing 01223 833376) and to see you on the day. The phones are very busy on Bonus mornings, so call a few days in advance if you can. This will help us plan the food - if the weather is against you on the day, cancellations are fine.
Just for people who don’t know, I should declare my interest. I’m a casual FISO at Duxford. I’m also a pilot who thinks the place is pretty marvellous.
Alan.

Hope to be able to make this but .. information for fly-in visitors can be found on the web site. The link takes me to the home page and I can't find the specific Bonus Day stuff. It's not under "transport information - getting here" and if I click "Flying at Duxford" I get the following error message;
Fatal error: Call to undefined function: getbestmatch() in /opt/BoxUK/amaxussvn/private/inc/class/common/AmaxusSite.class.php on line 1225
Tried "Whats On" and clicking on the calendar for 13th December. Nothing.
I remember there was a link last year to a briefing sheet for flying in. Any chance of a current link?

Fright Level (and others wanting to fly in for the Bonus Day):
I don't know what the problem is with the web site -- it may be that the information is geared to airshow fly-in visitors and the 08 airshow dates have now passed, so the link doesn't work. Duxford will obviously want to sort this out but, it probably won't be an instant fix.
Just treat the Bonus Day as a normal day and phone for PPR (01223 833376). You'll get a standard briefing on the phone along the lines of:
No dead side, no overhead joins.
Join downwind for the runway in use.
Noise abatement: avoid Duxford village to the SE of runway 24 threshold; if on 24, fly a biggish circuit around the village to start final over the BP roundabout at 2 nm.
Both runways are treated as one.
And the person on the phone will take normal details -- reg; departure a/d; number on board and eta Duxford.
The winter at Duxford is much quieter than in the summer and the procedures above are quite straightforward.
I'll pass on the web site problem.
All the best

A slight question mark over eating at Duxford. I am due to meet friends there for lunch on the 21st. December. One of them was at Duxford on Tuesday, and 'e'mailed me, saying that WINCO JOE'S restuarant is CLOSED until February. It would be worth giving Duxford a ring about this. There is an alternative cafe by the main entrance, but you will almost certainly not get a Christmas Dinner there. Enjoy your visit anyway.
