ELA1 and CS-VLA Dawn of a new era

Looking at an article on FK aircraft it talks about the ELA1 and CS SLA being signed late summer 08 and implemented in the UK in 09.

Does this me in the UK in 09 it will be possible to buy the FK 14

What about other factory builds that are currently able to be bought and flown on the continent like the Sportcruiser ( which has been awaiting approval for is it over two years now?) or Tecnam sierra

You can already buy the Tecnam p2002 fixed and retractable gear factory-built and certified in the UK. http://www.tecnamaircraft.co.uk/ The website you linked to is the UK dealer for kits, wheras GS aviation are the UK dealer for factory-built. The factory built Tecnams are certified to CS-VLA, so there's no need to wait fot ELSA!

Thanks guys, Under what maintenance regime are they operated? C of A or permit to fly? Makes a huge differance in cost of running not doubt.

There will be a lot of kit available, including the Dyn Aero MCR4s (four seats, 120kn on 17lph of mogas). The maintenance and inspection regime are still being worked up but the LAA are hoping to be heavenly involved in the end product…

the CS-VLA factory builts are operated on the C of A system. At the moment if you want factory built it's either Microlight on a permit or anything heavier on a C of A (except gyrocopters which can go up to 560 kgs on a permit).

To be pedantic, the CS-VLAs (as are any new "Group A" aircraft) are currently maintained under an EASA non-expiring CofA with an annual Airworthiness Review Certificate. It will be interesting to see where this goes though.

Are you saying the we will be able to buy the MCR4S as a factory built machine at some point in the future? I always fancied one of those, but don't have the time, space, nor skills to build a kit.

It is Dyn Aero’s plan is to sell a version of the 2 seater and the MCR4s as factory built aircraft under the new rules, but until the new rules are finalised it is only a plan. A lot of preparatory work has been done and I think they are hoping to be more specific by the middle of the year, but the intention is to launch ASAP after the rules are accepted. I can guarantee the purchase cost will be significant, but the saving on running costs will be massive over a pa28 or similar old tec.
