Flying in Rome
Hey - anyone have any experience with flying in Rome?
I'm off for a few days with my girlfriend and I think it would be a really good chance to do some flying.
What are the JAA considerations, i've done a search but I could only find Roma club which was entirely in Italian
Many thanks

Italy, Italy......... the problem with Italy is that if somebody tells you something about Italy and it is valid today, tomorrow it will be a different story. But maybe only on Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays
Your JAA PPL should be good for an Italian reg plane.

In Rome, at L'Urbe airport, you can try:
Aerotech Tel +39068125100 www.aerotechroma.com
Aeroclub Roma Tel +39 06 8120297 www.aeroclubroma.it
Or you can train/drive 60km south to Latina Aeroclub (only weekends).
Unless you'd like to fly a Cub from a private strip just south of Rome.
For Latina or the Cub pm me for details.

Yes, both of those organisations at Rome Urbe Airport (LIRU) are friendly - I dropped in a year or two ago looking for a PPL dual flight around the city. I left it too late in the day but they wanted to help.
The airport is about 5 miles north-east of the Vatican. You need to go through a metal detector etc before you can walk down to the GA hangers/offices.
The "Neuvo Salario" train/metro station is just a few minutes from the centre of Rome - from the station you walk through a long subway under the railway tracks visible below and you emerge opposite the airfield entrance (across a busy road):
