Help with definitions?

Hi there
I was wondering if someone could clarify what the term SEP means.
If someone was to ask if I had SEP do they mean do I have a PPL licence thats for single engine pistons?
Thanks

Yes, you're correct.

You've got a lot of learning to do. In the world of aviation, there are acronyms for EVERYTHING.

The PPL is a pilot licence with privileges restricted to private flying.

The aeroplane categories a PPL holder may fly are as defined in the Type and/or Class Ratings included in the licence.

A PPL with SEP(Land) Class Rating is what people usually mean by 'a PPL' - and remember that the SEP(Land) Class Rating has a 2 year validity period, whereas a PPL has a 5 year validity period at which point it must be re-issued in order for the Rating(s) included therein to remain valid....

Beagle, I never realised that. That's devious!

I checked my PPL document and in fact, it's even slightly worse. The class rating expires two years after I did the PPL (SEP/Land) skills test. But the PPL document expires five years after the CAA issued it - which took 6 weeks in my case, not all of those weeks being the CAAs fault.

And to be valid it must also contain a valid medical certificate with a different expiry date!

Which isn't valid unless it's been signed by the holder.

As must both the FRTOL and the licence to be valid!
