Kirkbride Open Day and Fly-In

Kirkbride Airfield in association with Solway Light Aviation will be having an all comers Fly-In and airfield open day on Sunday 22nd July. After last years event it is hoped to attract yet more visiting aircraft this year. If everything goes to plan it is hoped to have the following at the field, Huey helecopter, Jet Provosts, 2 x Antonov AN-2, Several YAKs (hopefully arriving together), Chipmonks x 3, bulldogs plus several cockpit sections and of course whatever turns up on the day. If you would like more details please ring event organiser John Plaskett - 01697-342142.

Lets hope the airfield owner is a bit more receptive to his visitors that day than of late.Although John isnt the owner he usually puts on a good show!

If everything comes off it will certainly be a fantastic day out, as for the political situation it cannot get worse than lastyear and that turned out to be ok ish.

Just got off the phone to event organiser John Plaskett and as with all events there is good news and bad news, probably best to start with the bad news. There have been some cancellations these include an L29 Delphin and the Huey (going to Blenhiem airshow). Also doubts about the AN-2, but not a deffinate no, so fingers crossed. However there is still the Jet Provost, 3 Yaks, Gazelle, Chipmonk, Bulldog, Isaccs Fury (hopefully the one from last year).
Also possible are more Yaks from North Weald but dependant on the weather. Finally the owner of Robin G-SELL will be offering 'air experience flights' a quick 10 minute local trip for 'FREE' WELL DONE THAT MAN !!

Overall there is so far just over 50 arrivals due given half decent weather, so fingers crossed that summer gets its finger out.
Finally a plea, please spread the word about this event and come and support this airfield.

Went last year and found the airfield owner / operator to be most hospitable.

Cant say the same for the flying club though which appears to have banned visiting pilots?

As was said earlier "shame about the politics".

Looking forward to going anyhow.

As far as I know the White Heather is your only option now.Small Rodent Driver has already mentioned about the Airfield Club which is not open to any visitors. However you will still be required to pay your landing fees at the "Second Control Tower" where the airfield owner is now based.

Cool

I am also heading up from Barton. What are you heading up in? and at what time? I will be heading up in G-BJXB if you fancy getting some air-to-air snaps over the lakes.

Weather permitting I'll be there in the 177 around lunchtime. Always happy to put a little something in the top-pocket in exchange for crackin' photos of the old girl doing the business (the aircraft, of course!).

Well done chaps looking forward to some nice low departures (there were quite a few last year), if you can get up with this awful weather.
